2010-2011 Bowling Green Technical College Scholarships


The list below includes many 2010-2011 BGTC Scholarships.  You may print a 2010-2011 BGTC Institutional Scholarship Application from the web site or pick one up in the BGTC Financial Aid Office.  This list includes all current scholarships for next year; however, there may be more added during the summer, so be sure to check your student email account or the BGTC FA and Scholarships web page at http://www.bowlinggreen.kctcs.edu/financial_aid.php  periodically!

 

Unless otherwise noted, applications for the scholarships listed below are due by July 16, 2010!  Be sure to submit a separate scholarship application for each scholarship you wish to apply for!

President’s Merit Scholarship

 

These prestigious, nonrenewable scholarships are merit based awards available to full-time students pursuing a diploma or degree.  These scholarships are based upon academic excellence, past work performance, involvement in extracurricular or community activities, overall student character and/or financial need.  Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.2  (high school or college) and an ACT composite score of 21 OR a COMPASS sum of 171 points.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

Commonwealth Scholarship

 

Kentucky residents who graduate in the top 25% of their high school class and will be enrolled full time are eligible to apply for this nonrenewable, one-year tuition scholarship.  Priority is given to 2010 high school graduates; however, 2009 graduates may apply.  Recipients may apply for a second-year award provided they have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours at BGTC and have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

John T. Smith Scholarship

 

The John T. Smith Scholarship is available to African-American Kentucky residents who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.  This one-year, nonrenewable tuition scholarship can be pro-rated for less-than-full-time students.  Recipients may apply for a second year award provided they maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

Michael T. Bardin Scholarship

 

The Michael T. Bardin Scholarship was established by Mr. Bardin to recognize students of Kentucky with strength of character, academic achievement and financial need.  Mr. Bardin worked for 27 years at BGTC where he served as principal for 13 years.  His belief in education and generosity will create a lasting legacy affecting the lives of BGTC students, families and our community.  To be eligible, students must be a US Citizen and KY resident who have completed 12 semester credits at BGTC.  Award amounts vary per academic year and application merit.

 

Dr. Lewis and Selma Dickinson Practical Nursing Scholarship

 

This scholarship, established in 2007 by the children of Glasgow Native, Dr. Lewis Dickinson, is designed to assist students from Glasgow/Barren County to attend the Practical Nursing program at the Glasgow Campus.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

The Lake Cumberland Home Health “Betty Maybriar” Scholarship for Practical Nursing

 

This scholarship, sponsored by the Lake Cumberland Home Health Foundation in memory of Betty Maybriar, a registered nurse instrumental to the success of the Lake Cumberland Home Health Agency, is awarded to students enrolled in the Practical Nursing program who demonstrate potential for achieving academic excellence.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

Renna Gentry Page Practical Nursing Scholarship

 

Renna G. Page, a graduate of the Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing, retired from the BGTC Glasgow Health Campus in 1998 after teaching for 32 years.  Mrs. Page sponsors this scholarship for Barren or Metcalfe County students enrolled at least part time in the Practical Nursing program.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

BGTC Culinary Arts Scholarship

 

The Culinary Arts Department of BGTC offers one $500 scholarship each semester to a Culinary Student who is in at least the second semester, is enrolled full time and demonstrates excellent potential for success in the Culinary industry. 

 

Greenview Regional Hospital Scholarship for Allied Health/Nursing

 

The Greenview Regional Hospital has created an endowed scholarship to assist students enrolled in Allied Health or Nursing at least half time.  Recipients will be determined based on financial need and a demonstration of their potential for achieving academic excellence.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

 

Dr. Mody “Tonya Jones Minton Memorial” Scholarship

 

This scholarship is for students from Barren, Metcalfe or Monroe counties who have been admitted to the Surgical Technology Program at Bowling Green Technical College and is based on academics, attendance and financial need.  Dr. Bharat M. Mody of Glasgow sponsors this scholarship in memory of Tonya Jones Minton, a BGTC surgical technology graduate who was killed in an automobile accident.  Award amounts vary per academic year.

 

BGTC Staff Council Scholarship

 

The BGTC Staff Council offers scholarships to non-traditional students who have completed at least 24 academic credits at BGTC, have financial need and have demonstrated excellent academic achievement.  Scholarships in the amount of $250 per semester are given based on availability of funds.

 

Trace Die Cast Scholarship

 

Students from any program area may apply for a Trace Die Cast scholarship.  Trace Die Cast has made funds available for students based on financial need and who, in the opinion of the BGTC Scholarship Committee, have demonstrated the potential to succeed in their chosen program of study.  Award amounts vary per academic year.  Previous recipients may reapply.

 

Rosemary Berry Distinguished Award for Excellence

 

This scholarship is available to students of the BGTC Collision Repair Program who have completed at least one semester and have earned a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above.  Eric Keeling, a former Collision instructor sponsors this scholarship in honor of a mentor, Rosemary Berry.

 

Pan Oston-BGTC Scholarship

 

The Pan Oston-BGTC Scholarship provides funds for two students to attend BGTC full time for one academic year.  Only Pan Oston employees or family members may apply.  Family members include spouse, domestic partner, child, stepchild, grandchild or step-grandchild.  Applications are also available from Human Resources at Pan Oston.

 

Kentucky Colonel’s Better Life Scholarship

 

At least one student in each of the 16 KCTCS college districts will be selected to receive a $2500 scholarship to cover tuition, books, and other educational expenses.  Recipients must be a Kentucky resident, attend school full time, pursue an associate degree, be a single working parent with one or more children under the age of 12, demonstrate enthusiasm for learning and potential for academic success, and demonstrate financial need not met by other sources.  This scholarship is automatically renewable for the second year provided the student meets satisfactory academic progress criteria and remains enrolled full time.

 

AirGas Mid-America Welding Scholarship

 

Airgas Mid-America, Inc. established this one-semester $500 scholarship for students enrolled in the Welding Technology program. The scholarship is open to any student currently enrolled in the Welding Technology Program.  Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), have completed 12 credits and be enrolled at least part-time.  The recipient must reapply each semester in order to be considered by the scholarship committee and the award is contingent on the student

maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

 

Laura Goad Turner Scholarship

 

The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation provides scholarship funds for Bowling Green Technical College students from Allen County, Kentucky, to purse a higher education.  Any Allen County resident enrolled in a program which contributes to workforce development in high-need areas is eligible to apply.

 

Gerald A. Embry Memorial Scholarship

 

The family of Gerald A. Embry, a former Bowling Green Technical College teacher and administrator killed in a tragic automobile accident, established this scholarship fund to for BGTC students attending a Warren County campus who are in need of financial assistance and have demonstrated  the potential for achieving academic success.  Any BGTC student who has completed 12 credit hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA may apply.  A letter of recommendation from an instructor or advisor is required with the application.

 

KCTCS Workforce Development Transfer Scholarship

 

KCTCS provides two $4000 scholarships to second-year students who plan to earn a degree from KCTCS and then transfer to a Kentucky public or independent four-year college or university.  One additional $3000 scholarship is available to a first-year student and is renewable if the student maintains good academic standing.  Applicants must be enrolled in a science, technology, engineering or mathematic discipline; health professions; or applied sciences.  Recommendations from BGTC are forwarded to the KCTCS Scholarship Committee for final selection.

 

National City Book (PNC) Scholarship

 

National City Bank (PNC) awards students $250 scholarships to assist with textbook expenses.  Applicants must be from low/moderate income households.  Recommendations from BGTC are forwarded to the KCTCS Scholarship Committee for final selection.

 

Bowling Green-Warren Co. Community Foundation/GED Scholarship

 

This scholarship is for Bowling Green Technical College students that have scored at least 2500 on the official GED. The foundation will award two $500 scholarships each semester.

 

 

Franklin Bank & Trust Scholarship

 

This scholarship is awarded to students from Franklin-Simpson County to attend Bowling Green Technical College. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must be enrolled at least part-time and have completed 12 semester hours with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

 

William Foster Tichenor Tuition Scholarship

 

This scholarship is for nursing students and is sponsored by the KCTCS system.  To be eligible to apply, students must have completed 30 credit hours and be admitted to a nursing program.  Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and have financial need.

 

*President’s KCTCS All Academic Team Scholarship

 

Two $500 merit scholarships are awarded each year to two BGTC students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement.  To be eligible for faculty nomination, a candidate must be a full time student, have completed at least twelve semester hours and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.  Additional criteria, information and timelines are posted during the spring term.

 

*Culinary Brigade and Chef Camp Scholarships

 

Culinary students who maintain excellent academic standing and make exceptional contributions to the BGTC Culinary Program may be nominated by the faculty to receive these leadership development scholarships.  Scholarship funds can be used toward tuition, books or other educational expenses. *National Technical Honor Society Scholarship

 

The Bowling Green Technical College chapter of the National Technical Honor Society awards up to two $100 scholarships each semester to students who have retained a 3.25 cumulative GPA and have been active members of the Society.  Any NTHS member who meets the criteria may apply by completing and submitting the application form found on the NTHS Blackboard eCommunity.

 

*President’s Work Ethic Seal Scholarship

 

Work Ethic Seal scholarships are a joint effort between Bowling Green Technical College and local Chambers of Commerce.  These $1000 one-year scholarships are awarded to graduating High School seniors who participate in a local Chamber of Commerce Work Ethic Seal program.  Contact your local Chamber of Commerce or your high school guidance counselor for more information.

 

*BRAVE-KCTCS Scholarship

 

This tuition scholarship is given by the Barren River Adult Vocational Education consortium to selected high school seniors from Barren, Metcalfe or Monroe Counties who enroll in the Industrial Maintenance program at the Glasgow Technology Campus.  Scholarships are based on academic achievement, character excellence and career potential.  A separate application is required with a separate submission deadline.  Contact the Glasgow Technology Campus Director or your high school guidance counselor for an application or more information. 

 

*Carl D. Perkins Assistanceship

 

The Kentucky Association of Career and Technical Education offers a $500 scholarship to a technical student who has completed at least 50% of the program.  This award can be used toward educational or job transition expenses.  Applications are available during the spring term.

 

*KCDA Darbyshire Scholarship

 

The Kentucky Career Development Association offers this scholarship in memory of David Darbyshire, an admired and respected counselor and financial aid officer who lost his life in a tragic accident in 1993.  One $500 scholarship is given to a second-year technical program student in good standing based on academic achievement and financial need.  Applications are available during the spring term.

 

*UK/UL/EKU/WKU/Murray/Morehead KCTCS Transfer Scholarship

 

All Kentucky public universities offer scholarships specifically geared toward KCTCS graduates who wish to transfer to a four-year institution.  Eligibility criteria varies, but complete information can be obtained from the designated scholarship office at the specific university
