Think About It

... and win a gift card!

Have you noticed the poster in the Gator Cafe near the exit? It shows a quote from someone famous, gives you some brief information about the person and gives you a little something to think about. But it also gives you three chances to win a $5 gift card!

1. On a sheet of paper, write your name, grade, homeroom teacher's name and the answer to the question found on the "Think About It" poster in the cafeteria. Drop your submission into the "Think About It" box outside the office. Each month, a winner will be chosen randomly from all correct entries submitted.

But you still have two other chances to win a gift card!

The theme for May is Caution and Safety.
This month's question is "Besides Confucius's birthday, what other Chinese holiday is celebrated on September 28?"
The Deadline is May 25, 3pm.
Awards will be presented May 30, students must be present to win.

Describe or illustrate the monthly theme in one of the following ways. Write your name, grade and homeroom teacher's name on your entry and place it in the "Think About It" box outside the office. Drawings should be placed in the bottom tray. Photographs must be submitted in jpg format as an email attachment to ptafaq@comcast.net by the deadline. Put "Think About It Entry" in the subject line and include the name, grade and homeroom teacher in the body of the email.

2. Write a paragraph of three to five sentences.
3. Write a poem of three to five lines.
4. Draw a picture on a plain white sheet of 8 1/2" X 11" paper.
5. Take a photograph.

One winner will be selected from literary submissions and one winner from visual submissions each month. Judging is subjective and winners are chosen based on how well or uniquely they interpret the month's theme. The winning students each will win a $5 gift card. If no entries are submitted in a specific category or the quality of submissions in any category is deemed substandard to the grade level of the entrant, the PTA may elect not to award a prize.

Students may get help from parents or friends to find the answer. Literary and visual submissions must be independent work. A new poster will be hung each month. All submissions become the property of A.C. Steere PTA and may be reproduced in print or online for the purposes of advertising or promoting the program. No monetary gain shall be made from submissions. Entries must meet all guidelines and deadlines in order to be eligible for the drawing.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of students participate throughout the country.

The PTA Reflections Program was described by its founder, Mary Lou Anderson, as "almost too simple." That simplicity-of asking children to express themselves artistically based on a common theme-is the foundation of this long-standing PTA program.

Students submit artwork to their local PTAs. Works are judged at the local level and the winning entries advance to the council, district, region, and/or state PTA levels, depending on the state structure. Top state award-winning entries advance to the national level of judging.
