I embrace learning as an opportunity to inspire and empower. As a teacher, it
is my goal to enhance student learning as a transformative experience.
Ideally, I want students to feel personally changed by their participation in
the learning process. Promoting an understanding that real-life situtions
shape the construction and utilization of knowledge is central to my teaching
philosophy because it helps students to sharpen their critical thinking
skills. I believe that students become personally engaged with their lerning
process when they pereive their subject matter to be directly relevant to
their lives. Understanding the diversity of different learning styles and
student experiences is key to enhancing this process.
While
students must ultimately take responsibility for their own learning, I believe
a teacher can and should inspire a student to learn. Learning about the
students I teach and listening to their experiences helps me to find ways of
making material fun and relevant to their lives. I am passionate about
finding the most effective ways of stimulating intellectual growth among my
students. To foster this growth, as a clas I promote "morning meetings" where
we have time to share with each other our concerns as well as our triumphs.
In
my view, teaching is not just instructing information to students, but rather
empowering students to take responsibility for their learning, inspiring
courage to grow intellectually, encouraging curiousity, and uplifting
children's spirits.
