Week of 12-13-10* (please sign & return)

This will be my last Newsletter of 2010, and I would like to wish happy holidays to all my students and their families!  I appreciate your support of your student and know you will continue that in the new year.

 

Spelling and Vocabulary words for all ELA students

1.                   Polar:  North Pole, snow, ice

2.                express:  takes you somewhere, quickly

3.                rustle:  movement with soft fluttering sounds

4.                conductor:  person who takes your ticket on a train

5.                nougat:  a white candy center

6.                barren:  open space, hardly anything lives there

7.                pranced:  excited, jumped up

8.                lurch:  to move suddenly, jerk forward

 

 

ELA:  In reading we will be analyzing The Polar Express.  We will be visualizing using handouts to identify beginning, middle, and end of story, identifying literary devices of figurative language, and writing a friendly letter after studying the the parts and purpose.

 

Math

Students will  learn rounding, recognize patters of multiples of 2,3, & 5, recognize trapezoids & hexagons, construct visual images of number facts, learn to tell time accurately, develop number sense, identify even & odd, practice mental math subtraction strategies, money, and addition.

Homework

Monday: (1)  Study Vocabulary. Spelling words are put in ABC order, 4 x each, and used in complete sentences, all due on Wednesday.  Test on Friday.

Monday:  Write meaningful sentences on vocabulary work sheet. Due Thursday.

Wednesday:  Math homework.

Thursday:  study for spelling & voc. test.

Friday:  spelling & voc. Test.

*Any class work not completed in class will be homework due the next day.
