What is DIBELS?

DIBELS is an assessment (test) that is used to track your child's
reading progress. Teachers use it to see where we can mostly help
your child because it can identify areas of weakness. This is not
a pass or fail type test.

I hear 2nd graders will be taking a test like LEAP and iLeap.

Yes, they are. This test is a practice run. This will get your
child familiar with testing procedures. In 2 years, when your
child is in 4th grade this test might determine if your child
moves on to 5th grade.

However, in 2nd grade this test means nothing other than exposure to standardized testing. The test will not be graded. Any accommodations your child receives in class, he/she will also receive on the test.
