Mrs. Ponvelle's Procedures

During the first six weeks of school, the procedures will be taught and reinforced. These are procedures that the students will be expected to follow after the first six weeks. Students will not be expected to follow the procedures immediately. :-) Note:This is just a start for my procedures. They may change before school starts.

Students entering class

As the students enter the class, the teacher will greet each child; they will get a wet wipe & wipe their hands, then put their school bags in their cubby. They will find a place on the carpet when they are done. As the students sit on the carpet the teacher will begin with a short song for everyone to join in and sing. The para will help the students with their school bags and take roll.

Students leaving class

Each time the students leave class to go anywhere, they will line up in a boy/girl line parallel with the big bulletin board. The first girl & boy will hold hands. The para will make sure everyone is out of the room and she will always count the students anywhere we go ensuring that we have everyone.

Location of the day’s date

I will have a calendar in the front of the classroom for the students to see.

Bell Activities

If any students enter before the bell rings, the para/teacher will help them put their things in their cubby. Then they will play with puzzles & toys on the tables until everyone else enters the classroom. These activities will be selected by the teacher/para.

Checking Attendance

After everyone enters, gets a wet wipe, & puts their belongings in their cubbies. The para will take roll.

Students who are tardy

If any students are tardy, the student will give their belongings to the para & the student will join the class. (Ex: If the teacher is reading a book to the students, the student will enter in the circle and listen with everyone else after he/she is welcomed.)

Student receiving permission to speak/comment/ask questions, etc.

During large/small group time and circle time, the students must raise their hands in order to speak. During center time, the students can speak at will.

Getting students’ attention

The teacher will ring a bell during center time to tell the students that they have 5 minutes left before they have to clean up. After 5 minutes, the teacher will ring the bell and she will go sit at the carpet to start singing the cleanup song. After the cleanup song, the teacher will start another fun song with motions to ensure that everyone picks up and comes to the carpet! The para will help any students who aren’t finished cleaning.

Student needing to go to restroom

If a student needs to go to the restroom, he or she will ask the teacher/para & one will bring the child.

Student needing tissue/baby wipes

If a student needs a tissue/wipe they will go at their own will to get one located in the front of the classroom near the board.

Student art work

Each week, three students will be chosen as “Artists of the Week.” The teacher will display their work on a bulletin board.

End of class dismissal

At 3:00-3:05, the teacher will take each student to his/her bus stop. Eventually, when everyone knows where their bus line is located, the teacher will call out bus numbers one at a time and each student will walk to his/her bus line in an orderly fashion.

Class movement to breakfast & lunch

The teacher who goes to lunch before us will knock on our door to let us know they are going to lunch. The students will line up as usual. They will stay in line in the cafeteria & wash their hands before they eat.

Restroom Breaks

During restroom breaks, the teacher will take the boys & the para will take the girls. If a gender finishes first, they will wait for 2-3 minutes at the most. If the other gender is not finished, they will go back to class. Whoever gets to class first will sing/motions a song until the other gender returns.

Intercom Announcements

During the morning announcements, the students will listen. If at any time a child is called to the office, the para will bring the child.

Emergency drills

fire/tornado drills & lock down

For fire drills, the students will line up as usual. The teacher will take the front of the line and the para will take the back of the line ensuring everyone is out of the class & present.

For tornado drills, the students will go in the hall against it & put their hands over their heads. Para will count students.

For lock down, the teacher will lock the door & cover it.

Student expectations for visitor in the room

If there’s a visitor in the room the students may invite the visitor to join them in play.

Student needing to go to nurse

If a student needs to go to the nurse, the para will take the child.

All student work will go into a portfolio to show growth. Any work that doesn’t go in the portfolio will go home in the child’s “Star Folder.”
