Parents and Students:

On Tuesday, February 9, all schools will close two hours early to allow
students to attend the Saints Superbowl parade in New Orleans. Bonne Ecole
will release students at 1:06. Please make plans for this. A flyer will be
sent home with the students.

CAN YOU BELEIVE IT??? The Saints have won the Superbowl!! With as many
people talking about the Saints not being as good as the Colts, I am so happy
that our team has proved them wrong. This is a great lesson for our students
and a "teachable moment" for us all. Our kids need to know that, like the
Saints, no matter how many people say you can't do it, you always have the
power to prove them wrong!
WE ARE OUT OF PAPER TOWELS!! We are still in desperate need of some
paper towels for our classroom. If you can, please send some in as soon as
possible!
Remember that next week we are out of school for the Mardi Gras holiday
for one whole week. But, we aren't there yet. The students need to buckle
down and make it through this week before we are on vacation.
There will be a whole school celebration again for Mardi Gras/Valentines
day. Our class will not be having a "party," but we will watch a movie and
exchange valentines. If you would like to send in a special treat, let me
know so I can plan for this. As far as valentines, we have 27 students in
our class. Please do not put names on them as this will take longer to pass
out. We simply do not have the time to waste!
In math this week we will start to study and review measurement. Many
students struggle with using a ruler. If you have the opportunity, this is a
skill that you should definitely review with your child. We will have a
performance activity on Wednesday and Thursday that will be for a grade based
on their skills using a ruler to measure to the nearest 1/4 of an inch.
In reading, we will be working out of the book as well as working in
workstations this week. Students will receive vocabulary on Monday that they
need to study for Thursday's test this week. It will be open book, but
vocabulary will need to be learned for this test.
In social studies, we are continuing our study of economics. We will
look at budgets, saving and bartering. A study guide will go home on
Wednesday for students to prepare for the test on Friday.

Graded papers will go home on Wednesday this week.

Also, agendas for some students have not been signed in quite a while.
Please keep signing these each night so that we can both make sure the
students are doing their homework on a regular basis and you are kept
informed of any changes or important messages.

If you have any questions, you can call the office or e-mail me.

 Thank you,
