What is my child's daily folder?

This is a folder that your child will use and bring back to
school EACH DAY! It will contain homework assignments, reading
stories, and any notes/information to go home. It has a take
home side and a sign and return side. It also has your child's
lunch number included. This is where you will send any notes
and/or lunch money to me. Your child's behavior calendar is also
included with his/her conduct grade for each day.

What is my child's graded papers folder?

This folder will contain weekly graded papers and will be sent
home every Wednesday along with a signature sheet. Please look
at your child's graded papers, discuss them with him/her, and
then return them along with your signature on the signature sheet
back into the folder on Thursday. Your signature indicates that
you have seen your child's grades and that you have reviewed the
information with him/her. This folder will be kept at school
except when it is sent home with your child on Wednesdays.

What are home projects?

Home projects are non-graded assignments that I send home with
your child to complete as a family. They are often based around
a theme in which we are learning, a special event, and/or an
upcoming holiday. These projects are given with plenty of time
to complete at home and then the students bring them in to share
with their classmates. They are often displayed in the classroom
and/or hallway and they are just a fun way to get the family more
involved in the learning of each student. I have had lots of
positive feedback from previous classes that have done these
projects...I think you will enjoy them, too!

What is the Rainbow Fish?

This is our student of the week! Since Bonne Ecole is having
an "Under The Sea" theme this year, our class is "Shining in 1st
grade" centered around the famous children's book character, the
Rainbow Fish. The Rainbow Fish shows the friendship qualities of
caring, sharing, and trying his best, which is what I'm looking
for in our student of the week. Each week I will choose a
student who shows good character to be our Rainbow Fish. That
student will get to decorate a page in our class scrapbook as
well as complete special daily tasks for the entire week that
he/she is the Rainbow Fish. A note will be sent home the week
prior to your child being the student of the week so that he/she
will be ready to shine in 1st grade!

How does our classroom behavior plan work?

In my classroom, I have a behavior board where each child in my
class has a magnet with their corresponding number on it. Each
student begins every day with his/her number magnet on E. If a
student's behavior is not in accordance with our classroom rules
that we practiced together, that child will be given a verbal
warning. If the student's behavior still does not improve after
the verbal warning has been given, then the child will move their
number magnet down to the next lower letter (ex: E will move to E-
, E- will then move down to S.) If the student has a major
improvement in his/her behavior, the child will have the
opportunity to move his/her number magnet back up to the next
higher level. The only exception to this rule is that once a
student has moved from E for the day, he/she can not move back up
to E because this letter is reserved for those students who chose
to do the right thing without being reprimanded. The highest
letter that this child could possibly be moved back up to would
be E-. When we are packing up our folders at the end of each
day, the student will write his/her behavior grade in their
calendar for that date. I will check each student's folder
before they pack up to make sure that he/she writes the correct
behavior letter. Please be sure that you check your child's
calendar each night to see his/her behavior grade and discuss
their day with them. Also, if your child earns an S- or an N as
his/her behavior grade for the day, I will need your signature on
that date of the calendar next to his/her behavior grade. This
will let me know that you have seen and discussed your child's
behavior with him/her.
