Logical Consequences

Logical Consequences

The goal of our class is to teach the child to make good choices and to be responsible for
his/her choices. Rather than focusing on what happens when the wrong choice is made, we focus on
what happens when you make the right choice. Each child is different and so are appropriate
behaviors. Responsive Classroom and I believe that the consequence should fit the behavior, as
well as the child.

In our class EVERYTHING is a privilege. If a student does not make good choices he/she will
lose privileges. For example, if we are working in groups and someone is making poor choices
he/she will go back to their desk and work independently. If a child is not using equipment or
materials properly, that child will lose the priviledge of using that equipment or the
materials.

Students will be taught to settle conflict if they arise. To discuss the situation with each
other and to listen. I will intervene only when necessary. Students will conference with each
other before conferencing with me. In life situations, there isn't always someone there to solve
the problem. It is crucial that children learn the life skill of conflict resolution. There may
be times when a student/teacher conference and problem solving session may be necessary.

In the event of a serious or dangerous behavior, the parent will be contacted by a note or a
phone call and if necessary diciplinary action by the office may be taken.
