Mental Health-the ability to deal in a reasonable way with the stresses and 
changes of daily life

Characteristics of good mental health: 
People with are in good mental and emotional health usually:
have a positive attitude and outlook on life,accept their limitations and set 
realistic goals,have a positive view of themselves and others
are resilient(or able to bounce back from a 
disappointment, difficulty, or crisis),act responsibly at school, at home, 
and in social situations,are aware of their feelings and are able to express 
those feelings in healthy ways,accept constructive feedback without becoming 
angry. 

Personality-a special mix of traits, feelings, attitudes and habits.


Self-concept: The view you have of yourself.

Self-esteem: the confidence and pride you have in yourself.


Bullying-
an overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or 
weaker people.

There are many influences on an individual’s health. They include: 
Internal factors such as knowledge, likes and dislikes, values, desires, 
curiosity, fears.
External factors such as role models, family, friends , peers, environment , 
culture , laws , media , and technology.

Heredity: is the passing on of traits from biological parents to children.  
Recognizing the traits that you have inherited can help you make decisions 
about your health in a positive or negative way.

Public health involves the protection and promotion of health at the 
community level.  Many organizations are involved in administering public 
health at different levels. The main health organization of the federal 
government is the Department of Health and Human Services {HHS}. 

Food Safety  Inspection Service. The FSIS oversees the safety of meat and 
poultry.

A consumer is anyone who purchases products or 
services. 

Media is a powerful influence which includes:
TV, radio, movies, books, newspapers, magazines, 
billboards, and the internet.
Media and technology can have positive or negative influences on your 
health.  You have to be able to evaluate the quality of what you see and hear.
