Because a Language Arts classroom is by nature one of teacher and student interaction and collaboration (rich with discussions and discoveries), simply sending home worksheets and textbook pages would not adequately address the deficit created by the student's absence. Any attempt to re-create that missed learning environment during class, upon the student's return, would be inadequate for the student who was absent, and would certainly jeopardize the ongoing learning of all students in the class.
Therefore, in an effort to ensure that each student's needs are being met, make-up work will be discussed during make-up sessions in the morning before school. On the day of the student's return, he or she must obtain a pass to enter the hall when the 8:25 a.m. bell rings on the next school day in order to discuss the make-up work with me. The student must arrive on time in order to participate in the make-up session. If the student arrives late, he or she will be issued a pass for the next make-up session.
Absent students who are feeling well enough should attempt to complete as much of the regular weekly assignments as possible. Most of those assignments will be available on this site. In addition, students should obtain information from trusted class members in order to clarify any assignments.
Failure to take advantage of this opportunity immediately upon returning from an absence will make it impossible for the student to benefit from the full learning experience.
