What can I do to help my child who is struggling with the content?
Review your child's notebook. Encourage the student to be
organized, to practice example problems daily, to ask questions,
and to take advantage of every learning opportunity, including
tutoring in room A106. Remember: math is a subject that must be
practiced to achieve proficiency.
Do you tutor?
Yes. Tutoring is offered every Tuesday and Thursday morning in
room A106 from 7:50 until the first bell, EXCEPT test/quiz days.
Tutoring is also offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons,
3:40 - 4:00. All students who are active learners during class
time are welcome to attend. Students must schedule tutoring
sessions with me, in case I have other professional obligations.
Do you allow students to use calculators and other technology?
Calculators and other forms of technology are incorporated into
lessons to enhance the lessons. However, we do not want students
to depend upon a calculator for basic mathematical computations.
Please note: Several college students and professors have
informed me that the use of calculators is not allowed in some
entry-level college mathematics courses.
Are students required to purchase an expensive graphing calculator?
No. We have a classroom set of TI84 Plus graphing calculators
that students may use in class. However, if your child is
planning to enter a major in college that is "math
saturated," you may want to consider investing in a
graphing calculator. Tenth grade students are allowed to use a
graphing calculator on 2 parts of the State Mathematics Test.
Ninth grade students are allowed to use a graphing calculator on
the ILEAP. In both cases, it is necessary for the student to have
practice with AND without the calculator in class and at home.
How often will you update the webpage?
The webpage will be updated weekly by Sunday 9:30 PM.
Why do you not put the homework assignments on the webpage?
Students are accountable to write all homework assignments in
their notebooks when the assignments are given in class. If a
student loses an assignment or does not write it down, he/she may
contact a study buddy or email me.
How/when may I contact you?
Parents may contact me at school via phone before or after
school, or during my planning period (6th period.) My email
address is micassel@caddo.k12.la.us .
Please type the student name in the subject line of your email.
Emails are answered promptly.
How do I access grades?
1. http://www.caddo.k12.la.us/parent.cfm Set up a user account
and password. The initial access is through the last 5 digits of
your student's social security number. ALL of the classes with
grades will be listed at one place. :)
