Evening of 10-1-09: I will give you time in class tomorrow to finish your Cornell Notes on "The Scarlet Ibis," but some of you seemed eager to do it this evening! The topics are: setting (place and time), characters (round, etc. with an explanation for each), protagonist, antagonist, all of the 5 classic elements and denouement, symbolism of the scarlet ibis (at least 3 different ways), and theme (which cannot just be one word; it must be a complete thought).
Due 9-30-09: Finish reading "There Will Come Soft Rains" (on the handout I gave you). Prepare yourself for a quiz on both "Usher II" and "Soft Rains" today.
Due 9-28-09: Be ready to discuss "The Necklace" and "Cinderella" before we quiz on "The Necklace." We're behind! Also, read the copy of "Usher II" by Ray Bradbury that I gave you in class. Using the Edgar Allan Poe link in the links section, write a list of all the allusions to different Edgar Allan Poe stories you find in "Usher II."

Due 9-4: Finish your writing assignment on which system is more depraved, that in "The Lottery" or that in "The Lady or the Tiger." Approximately 2 pages in length or 1 page typed.
Due 9-3: Read "The Lady or the Tiger" in the online textbook. Come prepared to talk about its similarities to "The Lottery."
Due 9-1: Write 5 Socratic seminar questions on "The Lottery" (one of each type according to the handout I gave you the first week of class.) Also, go to the BLOG Gifted section of my website and answer the question posted there.
