I am very excited to begin my fifth year at Captain Shreve High
School. This will be my 14th year teaching high school mathematics. In
addition to Algebra 2, I have previously taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1,
Financial Math, and Advanced Math. I feel that I am very well prepared to
successfully guide my students through this course as well as prepare them for
future success.
I completed my undergraduate work at LSUS with a BA in Secondary
Education. I am LA certified and highly qualifed in Mathematics and Social
Studies. In addition, I received my Master's Degree in Education at LSUS in
December 2008. I am certified in School Administration and Supervision.
I'm looking forward to working with all my students toward another
successful year!
I believe that every student is a unique individual who needs a safe,
caring, and challenging environment in which to grow and mature
intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. My goal as an
educator is help students maximize their potential in order to become
productive and active members of their community.
I believe that traditional education is important, but we also need to
educate students to live as productive citizens. The best education
addresses the needs of the individual student. We should educate
the “whole” student. The major goal of education is to help students work
and live effectively in an ever-changing society.
I believe the teacher’s role is as a guide, providing access to
information rather than serving as the primary source of information.
Students should be given the opportunity to practice skills in real and
relevant situations and learn to find the answers to their questions. In
order to do this, a wide variety of teaching methods and assessments should
be used.
I believe that students have greater respect for their teachers, their
peers, and for learning when they feel safe and know what is expected of
them. By setting high expectations, having fair and consistent rules, and
holding them accountable, students learn respect for others, as well as
themselves.
