Do you offer tutoring?
Yes. Tutoring sessions are in my class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:50
a.m. - 8:10 a.m. Please be aware that tutoring is not a time to do your
homework. You must come prepared with questions. I will be happy to go over
your homework with you and any problems that you did not understand.
How often do you give quizzes?
Expect an individual challenge at least once a week. This could be announced
in advanced or a surprise.
How often do you give tests?
Three to four challenges will be given in a nine week period. I will give you
a week's notice to prepare and will post a study guide on my website.
How often do you give homework?
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. I will sometimes assign
homework on the weekend.
What happens when I am absent and miss an assignment?
If your absence is excused, you have three days to make up the work. I
encourage all students to call a classmate if you are absent to see what we
did in class that day and start on the homework if any was assigned from the
textbook. It is your responsibility to get with a classmate to get a copy of
the notes.
How do I make up a challenge that I missed?
If your absence is unexcused, you cannot make up any work and will receive a
zero for that assignment. If your absence is excused, you have three days to
make it up. Make up challenges will be given after school and need to be
scheduled in advance.
How do I access my grades online and how often are they updated?
Grades will be updated every Monday. Click on the grades link on my website
and enter your Student ID# without the leading zero, and enter your last name,
then a comma and a space, then your first name. Capitalization is important.
Example: Smith, John
Are the homework assignments posted on your website?
Yes. However, you are required to write down your assignment daily upon
entering the classroom. In the event of an assembly or pep rally, assignments
may not be updated on the website correctly for all classes.
Can you recommend any websites to help me practice Algebra?
Yes. Click on the Links page on my website for fun and useful sites.
How do I study for your class?
Review your notes and note cards on a regular basis. Memorize the key
concepts. Understand what is going on. Search the concepts on the internet.
There are some very useful sites that will explain things on your level.
Practice the problems worked out in your textbook and compare your answer to
what the book shows. Rework the homework problems that you missed. Always
complete the problems on the study guides. And, last but not least, get a
study buddy.
Can I do any extra credit to bring up my grade?
No. It is against policy to give extra credit.
When I average my grades online, I come up with a different grade. Why?
Remember, homework is only 10% of the overall grade.
What days are we out of school for the holidays?
Click on the Calendar link to view when the school is closed.
When does the nine week period end?
This information can be found under the Calendar link. Please note that
grades are cummulative. This means that whatever grade you have the first
nine weeks, carries over into the second nine weeks. You will have a semester
exam. Then grades start over again the second semester.
How much is the semester exam worth?
Semester exams are worth 20% of your overall grade.
Do we get out of school early on semester exam days?
Yes, unless we've had unexpected missed days from school. You will take two
exams a day, for three days. On these days, you will be released from school
at 1:00 p.m.
What are challenges?
I use this word in place of quiz or test.
