What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader Requirements
All AR books to be tested on should fall within the student's zone. Students
find out what their zone is when they take the STAR reading test; showing
growth within the STAR test is a grade, so students are expected to do their
best. Students are also required to score at least an 85% on all AR tests.
Here is the formula used to calculate the final AR grade.
The first 200 points will come from your APR (Average Percent Correct).
APR of 85=100 points
APR of 80=94 points
APR of 75=88 points
APR of 70=82 points
APR of 65=76 points
APR of 60=70 points
APR of 55=64 points
APR of 50=58 points
APR of 45=52 points
APR of 40=46 points
APR of 35=40 points
APR of 30=34 points
APR of 25=28 points
APR of 20=22 points
The next 100 points will come from your reading level. If you read in your
zone, you will get 100 points. For every tenth of a point below your zone,
you will lose 5 points.
The last 100 points will come from your points earned. If you have all 10
points, you will get 100 here.
--After adding these four numbers, divide by 400 to get your AR grade. See
the following example.
--Sally Student has an average percent correct of 80, so she will get 94
points. This 94 points counts twice. She reads in her zone, so she gets
another 100 points. She only has 5 points, though. She is supposed to have
10. She will only get 50 points for this.
94 + 94 + 100 + 50 = 338
338/400 = 85%B for Sally Student's AR grade.
Do I have homework everyday?
Although official homework may not be assigned everyday, you should be reading
over the notes we take in class, reviewing vocabulary, and reading your AR
book. Time may not be given in class for you to complete your AR.
How often are grades updated online?
As a general rule, grades are updated online once a week.
