As a parent, I am sure you recognize how unique the adolescent years are for your child. This is time where your child begins to develop his/her academic self-concept and his/her feelings of competence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups, and family.
To help ensure a successful school experience for your child, Clearwood Jr. High offers various support systems. As a part of our School Counseling Program, some students are invited to participate in individual counseling. A school counselor can be an integral part of a child’s school experience by helping him/her enhance healthy social, emotional, and educational growth.
Many children experience complex societal pressures and changes within their family structure. As a result, children bring many issues and concerns to school with them. Providing individual counseling can help guide children to have a successful year by promoting developmental and preventive interventions. During individual counseling, your child will have the opportunity to express personal feelings and concerns in a comfortable setting.
Confidentiality of personal information is respected.
If you would like your child to meet with his/her counselor, please contact me by phone or e-mail.
Thank You,
Sara R. Hughes, M.Ed, NCC, LPC
