Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to eighth grade. This is an extremely important year for mathematics. The entire year is spent building and mastering skills that are needed to succeed in high school and on LEAP. As this is truly a challenging year, I hope that all parents will be able to attend open house on August 30h. I know that due to work schedules this is not possible for everyone and I encourage anyone that can not attend to set up an appointment to speak with me, by phone or in person, so that I can review the curriculum with you and answer any questions you might have. I am very easy to get in touch with. I am the Community Education Coordinator and do not leave school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until nine o'clock. I can also be reached at linda.sisson@stpsb.org.
Organization and practice are a must for all students. Please monitor your child's notebook daily. Homework will often be the completion of class work assignments, skill practice lab sheets, or word problem packets that target LEAP. The keys to success are to be prepared at all times and complete all assignments. If a student is absent they should get missed work immediately upon return. If at any time you notice your child does not understand a concept and it has not come to my attention PLEASE let me know. This is a team effort between student, teacher, and parent.
My grading system is as follows:
Exam 20%
Tests 30%
Homework, notebook, quiz 50%
LEAP and algebra work
I am dedicated to your child's education. It is imperative that we work together to help your child achieve their true potential. I am available to provide extra assistance any morning before school and/or after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They simply have to get a pass to arrange a time.
Sincerely,
Linda Sisson
