Homework and Spelling Choices

Homework:

Reading:
Daily Reading Comprehension- Read a passage each night and answer the comprehension questions.


Math:
Math 4 Today - Work on a section of problem solving activities each night.


Spelling:

Directions: Students must earn at least 50 points on the spelling contract each week. The student may choose how to earn those points by the completion of a combination of activities listed below. Spelling contracts are due on Fridays.

10 POINT ACTIVITES:

­ Fancy Letters- Write your words using bubble letters, dot letters, or choose your own kind of letters.

 

­ Spelling Shapes- Draw 15 different shapes, then write your words inside each of the shapes.

 

­ Blue Vowels- Write each of your words, then go back and color all the vowels blue.

 

­Hidden Words- Draw and color a picture.  Hide your words inside your picture and then have someone

find the words.

 

­ ABC Order- Write your words in ABC order.

 

­ Color Choo-Choo Words- Write each of your words in a different color and put them together to make one long word.

20 POINT ACTIVITES:

­ Spelling Scramble- Write your words with the letters scrambled up and then have a friend or parent unscramble the words.  Check their work for correct spelling.

 

­ Vertical and Horizontal- Write each of your words horizontally (across) and then vertically (up and down)

 

­ Computer Writing- Type your words two times.  Change the color and font for each word. Print out and tape into your spelling notebook.

 

­ UPPER and lower- Write all your words normal.  Then rewrite your words with the vowels in lowercase and the consonants in uppercase.

 

­ Colorful Words- Write each letter using a different color crayon.

 

­ Spelling Rainbows- Write your words in pencils.  Then trace over each words with a different color three times.

 

­ Backward Words-  Write each of your words forward and then backwards.

 

­ Reverse ABC Order-  Write all of your words in reverse (backward) ABC order.

 

­ Shortest to Longest- Count the number of letters in each word.  Then write the words in order from shortest to longest.

25 POINT ACTIVITES:

­ Word Search- Make a list of your spelling words on a word search computer program and print it out.  http://www.puzzelmaker.com

 

­ Sentences- Write a sentence using each of your words.  Underline the word in your sentence.

 

­ Short Story- Write a short story using all of your words.

 

­ Adding My Words- Add your words.  Consonants are worth 10 and vowels are worth 5. Ex. Said 10+5+5+10 = 30

 

­ Cut and Paste- Using old magazines and newspapers, spell your words by cutting out the letters and gluing or taping them on a piece of paper.
