What is the Fish Philosophy?
This philosophy has been adopted by all St. Tammany Schools. The
four main principles are: Be There (for each other), Choose Your
Attitude, Make Their Day (do something helpful or kind without
being asked), Have Fun. Teachers and students incorporate the
Fish Philosophy into our day. Have You Fished Today??
What about homework?
Homework reinforces skills learned in class and helps develop
student responsibility through completing assigned work and
returning it on time. Homework is something that your child
should be able to complete independently. Your participation in
your child's homework should be in terms of helping to review
for tests, listening and reading nightly, and giving
encouragement and praise for a job well done!!
What if my child didn't do his/her homework?
I understand that sometimes events occur and homework just can't
be completed. If this should be the case, send me a note letting
me know. Your child can make up the work at a later date.
What if I need to make a change in transportation?
All transportation changes must be in writing!! Please send a
signed note with your child and I will send it to the office to
notify them of the change. This must be done each time there is
a change in transportation.
What is iLEAP?
The iLEAP is a statewide test given to all third graders in the
4th nine weeks, usually late March or early April. It
consists of multiple choice/constructed response questions in
Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. We work hard
all year to prepare our third graders to make sure that they do
well. This test DOES NOT determine whether a child passes or
fails!!!
How can I contact Mrs. Roussy?
There are several ways to contact me. You can use the
communication log in the S.T.A.R. folder which I check daily,
call the school (892-4311), or email me.
How often do we update my child's IEP?
Your child's IEP can be updated anytime something needs to be
changed in his/her educational plan. All IEPs are updated yearly
by the anniversary date.
Will modifications be made in my child's mainstreamed class?
Yes! The modifications noted on your child's IEP will be
implemented by the mainstream teacher. Your child's teacher and
I communicate frequently and work together to ensure that he/she
can be successful.
Will I see my child's graded work?
Each Tuesday, a Graded Papers folder will be sent home containing
work completed the previous week. These papers are for you to
keep. Please look over these papers with your child and review
if necessary. A behavior grade will also be noted in this
folder. Please sign on the parent contact sheet indicating you
have seen these papers and have your child return the folder on
Wednesday. All students who return a signed folder on Wednesday
will be rewarded!
What is the Inside Scoop and where do I find it?
The Inside Scoop is our weekly class newsletter that can be found
each Monday in the STAR folder. Reading vocabulary, Spelling
words, upcoming events, and test schedules will be noted on the
Inside Scoop.
What is AR?
AR stands for Accelerated Reader which is a schoolwide program
used to foster individualized reading and improved
comprehension. Each student reads books based on individual
reading levels which are determined by an assessment test given
at various times of the school year. Students earn points for
successfully completing tests on the books that they read. Each
student works to achieve individual goals based on the points
they receive. Students achieving their goals have their names
announced on the morning broadcast and receive a sticker or other
reward from Mrs. Romo! A new goal will then be set.
