Class Assignments

Each morning, we will review the procedures that we have 
used to teach our Positive Behavior System used at Creekside called "ALI" 
Gators. Act Responsibility, Lead Respectfully, and Initiate Problem Solving 
Skills will be our focus for all students to grow into the very best that 
they can be.  
DOL- Each day, students will fix the writing errors, usually corresponding 
to the grammar lesson.
VIRTUES VIDEOS-Students will watch Inspirational videos and record their 
thoughts in their own Virtues Journals.
GRAMMAR- We will begin with mythology words.
SPELLING- Students will begin with words with word sorts.
SOCIAL SKILLS-Students will learn how unique and special that they are using 
aptitude activities. This will take the first 10-15 minutes of our period. 
We will use Second Step or Peace Builders program to touch on relevant topics.
READING- We begin with weekly vocabulary, as well as comprehension 
strategies, decoding, and compound words. During the week, students will 
read/listen to the story, and answer comprehension questions, as well as 
various other activities. The assessment will occur weekly. ELA

MATH-Every Day Counts begins the math period. This includes a percent, 
decimal, and fraction activity, as well as calendar skills. The last 9-week 
period begins with adding and subtracting decimals. We then move to 
multiplying decimals and whole numbers. Next we tackle fractions. We move on 
to percents, to get a better understanding.  We will use the note taking 
guide for extra practice, and finish the week with our practice activities 
book. Math GLEs:6.9, 6.10, 6.16.
 
SOCIAL STUDIES-Our last 9-week period begins with the Renaissance in the 
European nations. We will interpret political cartoons, then review the 
chapter for assessment. The American, Mexican, and French Revolutions are 
what we will study next, with Napoleon and primary sources finishing our 
week. We look at percent circles as an easier way to interpret data, new 
nations, and nationalism & imperialism. This will prepare students for their 
assessment. S.S. GLEs:4,6,20,45.  

SCIENCE-We will begin our last grading period with work, machines, and  
power; and calculating of each these. We will answer the question,:What is a 
mechanical advantage?", and "What is efficiency?". Then we delve into 
machines: the inclined plane and levers, with pulleys and wheel & axles 
rounding out the week. We then delve into the environmental issues, with 
balancing different needs considered. Our natural resources and our 
ecological footprint round out the week. Forests and fisheries will be the 
next unit of study, with a look at how forests can be managed, and 
aquaculture. Conserving land and soil, waste disposal and recylcing, and 
hazardous wastes finish our year. Science GLEs:27,29.
 
STUDY SKILLS- Students will work a daily program called Fast ForWord, which 
develops skills in listening, reading recognition, as well as memory 
improvements. Students who score the most points weekly will earn a treat.  
This increases student's incentive to work diligently.
