MONDAY NEWSLETTER – A newsletter will come home on Monday each week and will outline
upcoming tests, activities, and events. All study guides will be attached to this newsletter.
GRADED PAPERS – These papers will come home on Tuesdays in a green plastic folder.
They include all papers that were graded from the previous week. Please sign, date the page in the plastic folder, and return to school on Wednesdays.
ACCELERATED READER REQUIREMENTS – There is no solid AR requirement. Third graders are encourage to read and take tests to earn prizes from the library. At the end of the year, any third grade studnet who has earned 35 points gets to attend an AR popcorn party!
BOOK ORDERS – I will begin monthly book orders in September. Please
double check the total amount due. Also, make sure your child’s name is
on the book order form. I can only accept checks or money orders made out
to Scholastic. (NO CASH!) If you are ordering a “club” item, you MUST
complete the coupon. A “club” item means Scholastic will continue to send
items (along with a bill) to your home each month.
CONFERENCES – I am available to conference Tuesday through Thursday mornings
at 8:00 am . Please call the school, send a note, or email me to schedule a conference
if you need one.
GREEN FOLDER –Students will bring their green folder home each day, including Friday,
and bring it back to school every day. Newsletters, study guides, daily work, notes to
parents will be included in this folder. Feel free to send notes, lunch money, etc. back to
school in this folder. Please check and clean out daily.
HOMEWORK – Homework is assigned daily. Your child will only have homework on the
weekend if he/she has make-up work, a project, or if he/she did not complete something
in class that is needed by Monday morning. On a rare occasion we will have a test that will
need to be studied for.
ASSIGNMENT BOOKS/PLANNERS – Homework assignments will be written in the
assignment daily by the children. It will be written on the board for your child to copy into
his/her assignment book. You need to sign the homework page nightly. Conduct will be
recorded daily on your child’s current conduct sheet in the front of the planner. Parents
should sign the conduct sheet each Friday. I will check for signatures on Monday.
CONDUCT—Conduct marks are given for any school/classroom rule that is broken, that includes not completing homework or returning signed planners/papers. After 2 marks for a day, the student loses their check for the POPS party. After 3 marks, the student receives a recess detention. After 2 recess detention, a telephone conference is required. After 4 recess detentions an at-school conference is required. After 5 recess detentions, students are sent immediately to the office.
ABSENCES - Please call the office so that you may pick up missed work if your child is absent. It makes the transition back to school so much easier after missing school. Remember, you only have as many days as you are absent to make up the work. EX: absent 1 day, you get 1 day to make up missed work. If you plan to call, please call by 9 a.m. so that I may have time to prepare. Work will be ready by 2:15 daily if requested.
BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS—As stated in the student handbook, you CANNOT distribute birthday party invitations at school. Please do not bring them, because I will have send them back home.
BIRTHDAY TREATS—If you wish to provide a treat for the class to celebrate your child’s birthday, please check with me first. I will need to schedule a time that is good for the class. Please do not just send a treat and expect that I will be able to hand them out that day.
STUDY GUIDES - Study guides for reading vocabulary, spelling words, and Social Living will be attached to each Monday newsletter. It will come home each Monday in the green folder. It is imperative that these be studied nightly. Please work with your child to teach them how to study a little each night instead of trying to memorize it the night before the test.
MATH FACTS - Each student must demonstrate mastery of addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. Please make or purchase flash cards for your child to practice at home. Check out the "LINKS" button on this web site for a link to FACT DASH as an alternate way to practice. There are many, many, many web sites for extra practice and printing practice sheets. A sheet will be in your child’s green folder that will need to be filled out nightly to show that they studied their facts. Please make sure to initial this sheet.
EMAIL - My email address is heather.white@lpsb.org. I check my email several times a day as time allows, and I will respond as soon as possible. I rarely check my school email from home, so if you email me after 4:00 it may not get answered until the next day. Please do not email about changes in transportation for your child as I may not get the email in time.
