Unit Three
Unit Description
The purpose of the unit is for the students to develop a deep understanding of the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents. It does not teach specific algorithms with rational numbers. |
Enduring Understandings
· The understanding of fractions, decimals, and percents and the relationships between and among these concepts is essential.
|
Essential Questions
· Why is it necessary to use fractions, decimals, and percents in daily life?
· How are fractions, decimals, and percents related?
· How can benchmark numbers help me understand fractions, decimals, and percents? |
GLEs: 4, 5, 6, 7, 31 |
Students will know…
· Fraction

· Mixed number
· Improper fraction
· Decimals
· Percent |
Students will be able to…
· Assign parts of specified wholes the appropriate fraction, decimal, or percent name
· Represent and compare fractions, decimals, and percents using multiple representations (e.g., fraction strips, symbolic form, shaded portions of regions, shaded parts of grids)
· Developing skill in expressing a given quantity as a fraction, decimal, or percent and converting between them (e.g., understanding why 25% = ¼ = 0.25)
· Use fractions, decimals, and percents to analyze and solve problems related to interpreting data and making comparisons (e.g., proportion of people who prefer a particular food, comparing different discounts on different prices for the same product to determine the best p |
