Welcome to eighth grade! I will expect a great deal from you this year. I
have tried to sum up the most important things you need to remember.
• Every day you will need to bring these items: ELA binder, SSR
novel, blue/black pen, red pen, and your assignment pad. Once class starts,
if you must go to your locker, it will be counted as a tardy.
• Use only pencil, blue, or black ink on work for my class.
• Neatness always counts in my class. I do not accept work that has a
torn or frayed edge. Keep everything in the binding of your binder so you
won’t find it crumpled up at the bottom of your school bag.
• When you get to class each day, come in, sit down, take out your
binder and pens, and begin your daily oral language posted on the board.
This is to be done in your ELA binder in the section labeled DOL. Once
finished, begin reading your SSR book. If you are absent, an excused note
from your parent or doctor will allow you to earn the points missed on your
reading log for the day you were out. Following SSR and Reading Logs, we
will check your daily oral language.
• If you are out of the classroom when the tardy bell rings, you are
tardy. A tardy will only be excused by a teacher’s note.
• Use the restroom and get water before you come to class. The time
to do that is between class changes.
• Assignments are due on the due date. If you are absent the day it
is due, I expect the work to be turned in the day you return. If you miss a
test, you will be expected to take the test upon your return.
• Homework must be completed before you enter my room. If I catch you
working on homework in class the day it is due, you will not get credit.
• If I catch you copying someone’s homework at any time, you, and the
person’s work you are copying, will not receive credit.
• Notes to friends are not to be written or passed in class.
• Write on one desk and you will clean ALL of the desks.
• Discard candy, gum, food, and drinks when entering the classroom.
• Show me respect and I will do the same for you. Please remember
that we all have bad days and we should not take it out on others.
• I do not give grades; you earn them. At the end of the nine weeks
your grade will be a direct reflection of your efforts. I will not change
your grade or give you something for extra points. By that time, it is too
late. You are in control of your grades.
