Dear Parents:

Reading/English (7th) is a mandatory course for all seventh graders. This resource course is similar to the regular class course in that the Guaranteed Curriculum is followed. It differs in that the classes are smaller, and the material is presented using strategies that have been researched and proven to be successful with learners who have special needs.

The best way for your child to become a better reader is to read at home every night. This is preferred to written homework in this course. Students who read Reading Counts books at night and take the tests at school become better readers. Writing skills can be practiced by having your child communicate with friends and relatives through handwritten letters or through email.
