Editorial Cartoons-Guidelines
***DUE EVERY FRIDAY!!! (10 points each week)
Students are required to submit an editorial cartoon (found in the Opinion
section of the newspaper or online (see The Advocate example) each Friday
upon arrival in class. Weeks that are interrupted by holidays are not
included...this rule does NOT include "Junior Skip Day"!
Cartoons should be:
-neatly cut out; legible
-mounted on white paper (notebook paper is unacceptable)
-studied for key words in content in advance
(hint: research names, figures, words that are unknown, etc. Ask yourself:
When I look at this cartoon, what do I see? Record your response and research
any words or figures that are unfamiliar.)
You will be expected to write a coherent paragraph (in class) discussing the
theme/topic of your cartoon, so choose wisely!
Cartoons will not be accepted if students are cutting out or mounting their
work upon arriving in class. This assignment does require some preparation IN
ADVANCE...this means before you step foot into my classroom!
*ALL PARAGRAPHS MUST BE WRITTEN IN CLASS! Typed responses will not be
accepted all work must be original. You will be expected to apply these
skills on the Social Studies Exit Exam (GEE) in March.
**Cartoons can always be turned in early if you know that you are going to be
absent.
***Should "Skip Day" be observed on a Friday, editorial cartoons are due on
Thursday (cartoons will not be accepted on Monday in this instance, unless a
doctor's note is turned into the office).
