Success is just a HOP, a JUMP, and a LEAP away!
Dear Parents,
Below is a detailed description of classroom routines and policies. Read over these carefully to ensure a “FROG”-tastic school year!
Homework Procedures:
I will send home a homework sheet, Tadpole Talk, on Monday of each week that will outline the week’s homework assignments and assessment dates. The homework assignment sheet will also include important weekly announcements. The home/school connection should be a positive interaction between you and your child. I ask that you ensure your child has completed his or her homework on time (homework is always due the day after it is assigned) and neatly. Please contact me if your child is having difficulty completing homework assignments. Please know that all homework assigned is meant to provide practice and reinforcement of topics learned in class.
Homework Folder:
Your child’s yellow homework folder will be sent home and returned to school daily. The homework folder will be used to send home homework activity pages, office letters, classroom letters, and any other important information you may need. Please also use this folder to send important information to me (lunch money, doctors’ excuses, transportation change notices, book orders, letters, etc.). I also ask that your child places his/her homework assignments in the front pocket of this folder. The homework folder is a major component of our home/school connection.
Assessments:
Every Thursday your child will be administered a weekly spelling test. Every Friday your child will be administered a weekly reading assessment. Assessment dates will vary for all other subjects. For many assessments given (typically math assessments), I will send home a study guide for your child to complete as homework. This study guide does not need to be returned to me. I strongly encourage your child to complete all study guides sent home. Look for assessment dates on the assignment sheet sent home on Mondays.
Graded Paper Folder:
Your child’s graded paper folder will be sent home every Wednesday with the previous week’s test papers and daily work. The test papers will be stamped please sign and return and located in the left pocket of the folder. These papers must be returned by Thursday morning in order to ensure me that you are aware of your child’s progress. Daily work from the previous week will also go home on Wednesday. These papers will be found in the right pocket of the folder. These papers are for you to keep. They do not need to be returned to school.
Snack:
I ask that you send your child to school with a healthy snack and drink every day. We will have a “working snack” procedure in our classroom. This system is effective and the children really seem to enjoy it.
Lunch Money:
Please send your child’s lunch money in a sealed envelope labeled in the following manner:
Child’s Name (first and last)
Teacher
Lunch Number
Amount of Money.
You do not need to separate breakfast and lunch money. Students will receive a lunch menu at the beginning of each month, and it will also be posted on the school website.

Please remember to send lunch money to school in your child’s yellow homework folder. J
Transportation Changes:
If your child will have a change to his/her normal method of transportation we must notify the school office. All notifications must be in writing. Please use a full size sheet of paper. The note should include the child’s full name, teacher’s name, date, nature of change, and parent’s signature. The note should be placed in your child’s homework folder so that I can retrieve it and forward it to the school office for approval.
Absentee Procedure:
If your child is absent, we ask you to send in a note when he/she returns to school explaining the nature of the absence. Please send in all doctors’ excuses the day your child returns to school. Please see that your child is at school on time. The first bell rings at 8:17, and students are counted as tardy if they arrive after 8:20. Instruction begins as soon as students walk in the door. If your child is being checked out during the day for an appointment, please send in a note notifying me of the time. This way I can have your child packed and ready to be checked out when you arrive.
Visitors/Volunteers:
I encourage all parents and family members to visit our school and to be active. All visitors and volunteers are required to sign in at the front office and to wear an identification badge while on campus. I will be sending out a volunteer interest survey soon!
Scholastic Book Orders:
I will send home scholastic books orders at the beginning of each month. I will always notify you through the homework assignment sheet of when the order is due. Please pay for the order with checks only. Please send both the check and the order form in a labeled, sealed envelope. Please make the check payable to the company you are ordering from. Just a quick FYI…the more books the children order, the more free books we can receive for our classroom!!! J
Birthday Celebrations:
Please feel welcome to bring in or send in a birthday treat for your child and his/her classmates if you so wish. I ask that you send me a note in your child’s homework folder the day before you plan to send in or bring the treats. If you plan on bringing the treat to school, please indicate that in your note so that I may get back to you with a good time for the celebration.
