Hi there. My name is Mr. Steve Spires. I am a certified teacher with a
Master's Degree in Educational Administration. I have been a third grade
teacher for 23 years. In fact, it is the only grade that I have
ever taught here in St. Tammany Parish.
Honey Island Elementary has been my "home" for the past 18 years. Before
that I taught third grade at Little Oak Elementary for five years when it
was a 3rd-5th grade school.
My original Bachelor's Degree was earned from the University of Mississippi
(1982) where I majored in Public Relations and Journalism with a minor in
Business. Later, I took elementary education classes from the University of
New Orleans and was certified as an elementary educator by the Board of
Elementary and Secondary Education in 1987. I began to teach third grade in
the fall of that year. A few years later, I earned my M. Ed. from the
University of New Orleans in 1996.
When I am not teaching at Honey Island, I am tutoring students privately,
working on the next children's picture book or spending quality time with
my wife and five children.
To produce authentically engaged learners who are self-directed, project driven, independent problem
solvers that collaborate in the learning environment of Spires, Inc. (SI) with relevant experiences that
stimulate learning for a lifetime.
