The PEI-PTU class is active from the very first day of the school year through to the very last day. What does PEI-PTU stand for? It is an acronym for Preschool Early Intervention-Para Training Unit. This class typically has a higher staffing of adults in order to provide whatever level of support may be needed by our school's special needs population ranging in age from 3 years to 6 years. The PEI-PTU class is not necessarily the class that your child will be placed in next school year (the 2012-13 school year). Towards the end of the 2011-12 school year a meeting of your child's IEP committee (those who attended your IEPs in the past) will be scheduled at which time your child's progress and continued needs will be discussed. As a team we will come to an agreement as to the placement that will best meet your child's needs for the following year. We believe strongly in both the letter and the spirit of the "special education" law to identify the least restrictive environment that will meet your child's needs.
