What a busy week we have ahead of us! Tomorrow is our Valentine’s Day
party and exchange. On Thursday is our field trip to Texas Roadhouse. Some
of the children have been to Texas Roadhouse and others have not. The only
cost to this field trip is the buses and the children get to eat lunch free!
Remember to have your permission slip and money in by tomorrow.
I will be out Tuesday through Friday of this week. Mrs. Meyers will
be my sub. She has been a sub for a few years at Lyon and she is also our
wonderful PTA president. She will be responding to your notes etc. If there
is something you need to talk to me about it will have to wait until after the
Mardi Gras holidays. Wishing everyone a happy Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras.

READING: This week we will start a new unit ”weather”. Our focus book is A
Rainy Day. We will read other fiction and non fiction books on weather. We
will identify upper and lower case Ee, its sound in isolation and in context
(We will focus on the short /e/ sound as in bed.), elements of fiction, main
ideas, details, word families, words blending with /e/, sentences, and the
high frequency words this. You can use flash cards to help your child with
blending words. Use the “e” and “t” “et” cards for example and put a “j” in
front for “jet”. Then put an “s” in front for “set”. You can do this for
many of the other word families.
MATH: The skill we will cover this week:
• numbers
• addition
• money
• patterns
To help your child with addition at home you can use any sort of materials for
making groups to 10. You can use beans, pennies, macaroni, blocks, etc.
After you decide on the materials have your child create some addition
problems with your help. Six beans and two beans equals 8 beans. This helps
them see the separate groups that make up the number.
SOCIAL This week we will study weather and begin our Louisiana unit.

INFORMATION AND REMINDERS
1.Tomorrow is our Valentine exchange if you are sending valentines please make
sure you have one of every student. We have 22 students.
2.Thursday is our field trip to Texas Roadhouse. Permission slips and $3.00
are due by
tomorrow.
3.All checks for “Picture A Cure” fundraiser for Relay for Life should be made
payable to The American Cancer Society.
4.Mardi Gras holidays Feb. 20-24.
5.Tuesday, February 28th is the PTA meeting at 6:30. Please come and see what
great things the PTA is doing for your child.
6.The children will be allowed to check out library books starting March 2.
The children are responsible for the care and return of their books. If they
don’t return it the following week they can not check out another one. If
their book is lost or damaged beyond reasonable repair they are responsible
for the cost of the book. If you do not want your child to check out books
please let us know. Our library day is on Friday.
7.Thursday, March 8 is the end of the nine weeks. Friday, March 9th is a
teacher work day and the students stay home.
