Class News Letter

MRS. LACASSAGNE’S CLASS NEWSLETTER
EXTRA!  EXTRA!  READ ALL ABOUT IT!
WEEK OF MAY 14 - 18, 2012

 
DATES TO REMEMBER:
*May 18 Splish, Splash Water Day 
*May 22 Last day of school- half day! 

WEEKLY OVERVIEW:
*Vocabulary words for this week are:  circle, toward, grew, welcoming, leave, 
wreck, toppled.
*Spelling words are the diphthong /oi/ spelled oy and oi:  joy, boy, toy, 
spoil, coin, join, toward, circle, wood, look.  
*In Reading, we will summarize stories and examine cause and effect in 
stories. 
We will also work on the important skill of reading fluency. 
*In Language Arts, we will combine sentences using “and”.  
 We will continue to practice writing complete sentences.
*In Math, we will continue our unit on money.
Please continue practice addition and subtraction facts at home each night.
*In Social Living we will discuss summer, the beach, and water safety. 

  ANNOUNCEMENTS:   
*Lyon Elementary Yearbooks for the 2011-2012 school year are on sale for pre-
orders.  The cost is $16. 










REMINDERS:
*If your child brings his/her lunch and wants milk or if your child would 
like to purchase extra milk, then he/she needs to bring $.50 the day of the 
purchase.
*Lyon Binders should be returned to school each day.
*Be sure to check your child’s homework each night 
  to see that it is correct and neat.
*Be sure to check your child’s Lyon Binder, and sign 
  his/her behavior chart every night.  
*Thursday is our library day!  Remind your child to   bring his/her library 
book to school on Thursday each week, so another book may be checked out.
*Monday and Tuesday are our P.E. days.  Be sure your 
  child has the appropriate shoes for P.E. on those 
  days.

NOTE TO PARENTS:
I apologize for not getting DIBELS results to you yet.  I have decided to 
send them home with your child’s report card.  I apologize for any 
inconvenience.

Author’s Tea was a success!!! The students’ books looked amazing and they 
were very proud to read to the guests who came and to each other.  Thank you.

This is the last full week of school! Please talk to your child about how 
school is not over yet and that he/she will need to continue to work and 
behave until the very last day. Thank you.

“Splish, Splash Water Safety Day” is Friday.  If you have not paid or sent in 
your permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. I will send home 
another one today with any student who has not paid or turned in a slip.
