A Glimpse of the Upcoming Week
Reading: As we look forward to the Thanksgiving holiday, we will be spending the next two weeks reading two different books that reveal some of the facts and significance of this American holiday. We will begin with Molly’s Pilgrim, a story about an immigrant family that embodies the true meaning of the term “pilgrim”. Vocabulary, skills and comprehension assessments will be taken from in-class activities and assignments. Spelling words will come from the story - spelling test on Thursday!
Writing: Students will continue to work on their persuasive postcards that highlight the importance of habitat loss as a result of wetland destruction from natural and human interference.
Language Arts: In language arts, we will continue to work on verbs and synonyms in sentences. Review of previously learned skills will also be included in this week’s studies.
Math: Multiplication and division continue to be the focus in math as students learn more fact families of specific numbers. Test on vocabulary and multiplication facts of 1’s, 2’s, and 0’s on Monday. Tested skills of new fact families introduced this week will be on Thursday!
Science: Thanksgiving is a good time to study the body’s digestive system as we anticipate the delicious, traditional foods associated with this time of the year. Students will learn the parts of the digestive system, their role in digesting foods, and additional facts associated with human digestion. Test will be on Friday! Additionally, we will spend a day or two reviewing solar system facts to keep this important topic fresh in our minds as we look forward to welcoming Mr. Bowen to speak about the United States space program as it pertains to Space Shuttle missions.
Social Studies: The students will continue to investigate how the people in Louisiana are affected by their surroundings. Quiz on Thursday!
