Third Quarter:
The music of the third quarter has the rich variety of the new and the old.
For the love of music in all our souls, this quarter has some exciting
holiday music for the New Year 2012, Martin Luther King, Valentine's Day,
President's Day and Mardi Gras. In addition we will delve into the
instructional texts provided by our school district including the World of
Music and Spotlight on Music series.
As a supplement to these materials and resources, historically significant
musical compositions by the great composers will be listened to and analyzed
by form, content, and style. Many avenues or modes of communication are used
in understanding culture and history of the arts. From advanced organizers,
listening maps, posters, DVDs, and video excerpts, music comes alive and
enters through our senses: in sight, in sound, and in feeling.
The students will engage in hands-on playing, singing, moving, and creative
music activities. While most students naturally enjoy this active
participation, they are acquiring life-long skills and having fun too. With
great hope and eager anticipation, the time spent in music class this third
quarter of the 2011 = 2012 school year will nuture and nurish their mind and
soul and inspire them to appreciate and cherish music for the rest of their
lives.
