About Your Teacher

Lieutenant Colonel Cassady entered the Marine Corps from Stratford, New 
Jersey in October 1970 through the Platoon Leaders Class program. He is a 
1968 graduate of Sterling High School, Somerdale New Jersey and a 1973 
graduate of Glassboro State College with a B.A. degree in Biology.
Upon graduation from Glassboro state College in 1973, he accepted a 
commission and was assigned to the Basic School (infantry) at Quantico Va. 
for training. Subsequently, Lieutenant Cassady attended Field Artillery 
School in Ft Sill Oklahoma followed by 12 years of progressive assignments 
as a Combat Arms officer. 
In 1984, Major Cassady was re-designated to the Logistics field and assigned 
as S-4, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, serving in various operations in the 
Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf areas. Selected for Command and Staff 
College in 1988, Lieutenant Colonel Cassady graduated in 1989 and was 
assigned as the Head of CSS Doctrine Division, Warfighting Center, Quantico, 
Virginia. While assigned to the Doctrine division, he authored 7 military 
manuals and a number of magazine articles for professional military 
publications. Also, during this time, he deployed for combat operations as 
Officer in Charge, Mortuary Affairs Company (Provisional) I Marine 
Expeditionary Force for Operation Desert Shield/Storm. 
Upon returning from Desert Storm, Lieutenant Colonel Cassady assumed command 
of the Marine Detachment, Ft Lee Virginia from 1994 to 1997. Subsequently, 
he served an additional command tour as Officer in Charge, Detachment 
Commander Naval Forces Korea, Pohang, South Korea from July 1997 to July 
1998. 
Returning from Korea in 1998, he assumed duties as Head, Staff Planning 
Division, Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic. Lieutenant Colonel 
Cassady retired from this assignment in July 2001.
After retirement, Mr. Cassady worked as an Opposing Force, Military Analyst 
for Joint Forces Command in Suffolk, Virginia. Recalled to active duty in 
November of 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Cassady organized, trained and deployed 
a 300 Marine strong unit to conduct battlefield recovery of the fallen. He 
served in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, leading his 
company size unit in accomplishing this critical task for the Marines Corps. 
Lieutenant Colonel Cassady's last active duty assigment was management of 
the Battlefield Retrieval program for Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans, 
Louisiana.
Lieutenant Colonel Cassady’s combat decorations include two awards of the 
Bronze Star and the combat action ribbon. 
Additionally he holds the following decorations: Legion of Merit (Gold 
Star), Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star), Navy and Marine Corps 
Commendation Medal (Gold Star),and numerous unit, campaign, and service 
decorations reflecting his worldwide service and operational experience.
Lieutenant Colonel Cassady is married to Kayla Pagel, Lieutenant Colonel, 
U.S. Army (RET).
