Image Matrix

Images that are grouped together appear conceptually linked.

Benchmark: Producing works of art that successfully convey a central thought based on ideas, feelings, and memories.

Objective: The student will use create a work of art using collage and mixed media to create a drawing based on images that are grouped together and appear conceptually linked.

Step one: Divide a sheet of drawing paper to make an irregular grid with a large box in the center and 10 or smaller surrounding boxes.

Step two: Glue a picture or create a drawing in the center panel which will serve as the reference, or “trigger” image. You may use a previous drawing, or portion of a drawing a photograph, photocopy or magazine picture.

Step three: In the smaller units, glue images which are associated with the trigger image, either in a symbolic or psychological way, images that represent how you think and feel about the trigger image. Some must be photocopies, drawings, magazine pictures and pictures transformed and changed. You may combine collage and drawing to make a personal and aesthetic statement by working into them with colored pencils or other art materials.

Consider your composition a visual representation of:

a person

a place

an object

an experience

an emotion

a dream

a fantasy

an art object.

Final drawings due:

1st period due May 16

2nd period due May 16

4th period due May 16

6th period due May 15

All work is due in before exam. No work will be accepted after the exam has been given.
