Procedures and Policies

Your Gifted Science can be and interesting and exciting course.  Success in 
the course requires a commitment on the part of the learner to actively 
participate in class. You will be expected to complete all research, 
homework 
assignments, lab investigations and group projects on a level that is 
expected of a gifted student.  My commitment to you is to present to you an 
environment in which learning is challenging, informative, and hopefully an 
exciting and enjoyable experience.  Let us work together for success!



GIFTED BiologyI/Physical Science Classroom Guidelines and Procedures

Students are expected to follow all parish and school wide rules and 
regulations.

Students are expected to show respect toward others and their property.

Students are expected to be on time for class and have all materials needed.

Students are expected to be engaged ONLY in science work during class (other 
distractions should not be out during this time).

Students are expected to follow all directions and safety procedures during 
lab time.

Students are expected to remain quiet and attentive during classroom 
presentations.


Consequences for misbehavior


School policy will be followed for school infractions.

First classroom infractions- student will receive a warning

If infraction continues, extra assignment will be given and points may be 
deducted from participation grade.

Third infraction- student will receive a half hour detention and parent will 
be contacted

Severe disruption or disrespect will be referred to the office for discipline

Notebook-Binder and paper (NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS)

PENS AND PENCILS-BLUE OR BLACK INK ONLY

COLORED PENCILS OR MARKERS FOR PROJECTS

LAB NOTEBOOK/JOURNAL-(COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK)

2 PIECES OF POSTER BOARD FOR PROJECTS (MAY BE HALF SIZE)

MANILA FOLDER

PAPER TOWELS

BOX OF TISSUES


Grading Policy

Grading will be done on a point scale bases.  Each assignment will be worth 
a 
certain number of points.  Homework, class assignments, lab activities, 
quizzes, tests and special projects will be weighted according to specified 
point values.  To obtain your daily average, divide your earned point value 
by the total number of possible points.  The daily average is worth 80% of 
your final average.  Your Nine Weeks Exam is worth 20 % of your final 
average.


Make-up Policy and late work

Any assignment missed due to excused absence is to be made up within the 
specified number of days according to School Board policy.  Make-up dates 
for 
missed quizzes /tests will be posted or you can see the teacher for special 
arrangements.  Any assignment turned in late without excused absence will 
have a 10% deduction of the grade per day late.  No credit is given after 5 
days late.
