Happy New Year, and welcome to new and returning students! This semester
we will be begin to study music of the Modern Period (1900 to present). In
the first 9 weeks, each student will prepare and present a project on a
Modern composer and his works, and include a visual artist whose works
parallel in style. In music theory, we will continue to work at individual
levels, but will add weekly composition assignments that will culminate in a
completed work by each student to be performed in class. Concerning
musicianship skills, we will concentrate this 9-weeks on rhythmic dictation
and conducting techniques. There will be several performance opportunities,
including the Talented Music recital and the Evening at the Arts. Students
may also participate in the LMEA Solo and Ensemble Festivals in February.
