![]() MICS Cross Country Kids This school year (2010-2011) at MICS, we are excited to offer our first ever running program called Cross Country Kids offered just for our students. It is meant to be an informal introduction to running in both individual and group settings. We will have two seasons for our CCK program: The fall season running from October 12, 2010 through December 16, 2010 and the spring season running from March 1, 2011 through May 12, 2011. We plan on holding our workouts on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons directly after school. Each of our practices has our students running a different course and each course allows the students to set new goals to complete and gives each child the opportunity to challenge themselves in a different way. Every course is set up to motivate and help keep our students interested and involved. Our workouts will be posted on the website and on Edline and students will be encouraged to keep a log of their running experience throughout each season. We will also have 3 or 4 scheduled races during each season where your child can have fun and experience a little of what it might be like to be involved in a running organization. The goal of CCK is to allow any student to learn how to enjoy running and discover a way to keep fit for a lifetime. We also want the students to understand that exercise can be done in a fun way and exercise is good for everybody! HOW IT WORKS Registration forms will be sent home in September which will also include information about the program and what is needed to have your child participate. The program is free to any MICS student or alumnus. Once we receive your registration form, your child will be enrolled in our CCK program and it will be your responsibility to arrange for pick up after practice days for the duration of the season. This year MICS PE Department is offering charm chain rewards for being active as incentives for the students. These charms can be earned by the student for various achievements including, but not limited to, maintaining and turning in fitness logs, keeping a running journal, and participating in our race series through CCK. It is our way or recognizing each student for their effort in keeping themselves fit for a lifetime. These charm chains will be able to be displayed on their bookbags throughout the year. SO… WHAT IS THE CCK RACE SERIES? Throughout each season, we will have scheduled races. These races will be held on the school grounds during a scheduled practice day (except for the AHA Tunnel Run in the spring). Your child will be automatically registered for each race once he/she is registered for the CCK program. You will be given a race schedule at the time of registration. Your child will receive a race number upon registration in CCK. This number will be used for each race in the series (except for the AHA Over & Under Tunnel Run in the spring). We will attempt to collect the numbers at school after each race, but in the event your child goes home with his/her number, please don’t discard it!! That’s all you need to do. The rest is easy! You work with your child on their running or walking to get them ready for the next monthly race in the series. A reminder note will be sent out the week before that month’s race. October – Pumpkin Run (each runner will receive a pumpkin for their charm chain upon completion) November – Turkey Trot (each runner will receive a turkey for their charm chain upon completion) December – December Dash (each runner will receive a Christmas tree for their charm chain upon completion) March – Shamrock Shuffle (each runner will receive a Shamrock charm for their charm chain upon completion) April – Raindrop Romp (each runner will receive a Raindrop charm for their charm chain upon completion) May – MICS CCK Team will participate in Houma's TGMC Run for Excellence!! NOTE: This race is not held on the school premises and is NOT a school-sponsored event. We encourage all families to come with their kids!! ![]() |
