Wondering what these charm chains are all about??
In PE this year, we have implemented a great incentive program
for the students! Each time the student chooses to better their
fitness and healthy well-being, he/she will earn a charm from the
PE department. The students are allowed to keep these charm
chains on their backpacks throughout the school year. Here’s a
breakdown of the charms available:
Sneaker Charm: earned for each weekly “Big Shoe Award Fitness
Log” turned in. In addition, the student’s name will be added to
his/her class for the school-wide Big Shoe Award Contest
Foot Charm: earned for each monthly Fitness Fanatic calendar
completed. In addition, the student’s name and picture will be
posted on our “Fitness Fanatics” wall!
Grapes Charm: earned for each weekly Nutrition Log turned in by
student. We are encouraging students to make healthy, nutritious
choices throughout their day.
Tread Charm: earned for each five miles run by student.
Students have been encouraged to keep a running journal at home
and just log their dates and distances. Once 5 miles have
accumulated, he/she will get a tread charm
Walker Charm: earned for each five miles walked by student. If
running is a little difficult for the student, he/she may choose
to walk. Students have been encouraged to keep a journal at home
and just log their dates and distances. Once 5 miles have
accumulated, he/she will get a walker charm.
Helping Hand Charm: earned each time a student donates items to
PE. Currently, we are in need of cups for drinking water at PE!!
26.2 Charm: earned once the child has completed 26.2 miles
(walking or running) in a 3 month period. 26.2 is the length of
a marathon!
Race Series Charms: earned by members of the Cross Country Kids
Running Club for races completed during the scheduled seasons.
We plan on having 6 different races throughout the year (6
different charms!) Fall season will begin October 12.
Information will be sent home in September.
Remember all forms and information for PE can be found on our
website www.mariaimmacolata.org and on Edline.
So, what is H.A.F. Time Club anyway??
The H.A.F. Time Club was an idea for a club dreamed up by two 6th
graders at the end of the school year 2009-2010. These students
wanted to start a club that would focus on health and fitness.
The club is open to all 4th through 7th graders. The plan of the
club is to educate the students on health and
fitness topics and have some fun while doing it! The club meets
every other Friday and this year they have plans for the
following:
Expert visitors in the areas of nutrition, first aid, self defense
Community service by starting and maintaining a recycling center
at school
Possibly selling waters and sport drinks at Flag Football to
raise money for the school
Starting a healthy snack stand at school-wide functions
Volunteering to serve at local sporting events where needed and
possibly to better our earth by volunteering to garden where
needed
And, most of all, a time to have some fun after school doing
something active together! Remember, no student will be left "on
their behind"!
