What is the No Zero Policy?

The No Zero Policy is a policy used by all English II Teachers in which
students are held to the highest possible standards. No zeros are permitted.
Failure is not an option due to the amount of effort provided by student,
teacher, and family. All work must receive at least a 60% (D-); otherwise,
it must be redone. The No Zero policy emphasizes responsibility on the part
of the student.
This is NOT the same as the Zero Tolerance policy which refers to
violence in the schools.

How can my student prepare for the GEE?

Your child can prepare by reading every day (as is their homework) and by
accessing various pretests. I have provided links through this website. See
the "Links" section. Furthermore, I am providing after school tutoring if
he/she needs more practice in certain areas.

If my student misses school, what should I do?

Any student who misses school should bring back a parent note,
doctor/dental/hospital note, etc. as soon as they return to school. Only two
handwritten notes are accepted per year. After two weeks, no notes are
accepted. All students should have TEACHERS SIGN NOTES FIRST. Notes are then
given to the ATTENDANCE OFFICE LAST. If notes are given to the office,
teachers have no record of excusing absences. Please follow this procedure
to ensure that your attendance records are accurate. Remember no more than 9
excused days are allowed. Checking out of school counts as an inexcused
absence unless a doctor/dental note is received the next day. STUDENTS ARE
REQUIRED TO MAKE UP ANY WORK THEY HAVE MISSED DUE TO ANY ABSENCE.

If a student misses a test/quiz/assignment, what should he/she do?

Ask for the assignment and make plans to stay after school for tutoring.
Tests/quizzes must be made up within one week. All assignments must be made
up by the end of the six weeks (except due to special circumstances such as
prolonged illness or suspension and discipline center attendance).

If my assignment is late, what happens?

Late assignments will be docked points. (Sometimes up to half points if it
is a lengthy project, for example). Any assignment turned in AFTER the six
weeks time period is over will receive 1 point. (By this time, you should
have made up all work or come to tutoring to do so.) Try your best not to
fall behind.

When are the I-Leap and GEE 21 Exams?

The I-Leap and GEE 21 Exams start during the last week of March extending
through the first couple of days in April. Students will be receiving valuable
practice involving these tests; therefore, it is important that he/she not
miss school. Also, missing school frequently makes it much harder for students
to pass his/her classes as well as the test.
