Happy February! This month we will be learning about Black History. The students will learn about famous black Americans while also learning about inventions, slavery, MartinLutherKing, Jr., and Barack Obama. Some activities we will do include role-playing, graphing, and drawing. Also this month we will study about Mardi gras and our great state, Louisiana. Towards the end of the month we will begin a unit on Dr. Seuss. Look for some information to come home about some wacky "dress" days we will have that week. More info to come!!
We will exchange Valentine's on Feb. 14. This is NOT a Valentine's party, just an exchange. We have 20 students in our class if you would like your child to participate. Please have your child sign their name on each card, but do not worry about addressing the cards.
Most sudents have mastered recognition of their unppercase letters, and numbers 1-10. We will begin learning the lowercase letters and the sounds that letters make, as well as numbers 11-20. We will also start focusing on the beginning sounds of words. You can pracitce this with your child when driving in the car. Ask them what certain stores or restaraunts start with. Be sure they tell you the "sound" and not just the letter.
READ to your child daily. When you read, ask questions about the story. Ask your child to recall certain events and characters from the story. Have them predict what they think is going to happen next. Point to certain letters in the text and have your child identify it as well as the sound that it makes. Even when yout think they are not listening, it is THEN that they are soaking up the most information!!
REMINDERS
- please make sure to label everything that you send to school with your child, hats, coats, mittens, etc.
- make sure that we have a complete set of clothes at school for your child
- please check the front and back of your child's folder each day, usually important papers that need to be signed and returned are in the back pocket, so check both daily
