Announcements

We are having so much fun again this year in Pre-K, K, & 1st grade music
class! Our Kindergarten classes will present a Christmas program and our
first grade classes will present our spring program.
All classes will learn the scale and will play xylophones. We will be singing
solfege and the first graders will learn about the staff and the
notes.

We are learning many songs to help us learn our school units of study and we
play instruments and learn about the elements of music!

The Kindergarteners will present their Christmas program by individual
classes on the stage in my classroom (schedule below). Parents will be
invited to attend their child's class performance. I am
located in a new trailer in a different location this year! I am close to the
Pre-K playground. The performance schedule of classes is set up to allow one
group of parents to leave before the next comes in.
Boys will be toy soldiers and girls will be dolls.
Boys will need solid white long sleeved collared shirts, dark (preferably
black) slacks, and tennis or dress shoes.(Hats and crossbands are provided.)
The girls will need to wear Christmas dresses (or skirts and blouses) and
shoes. White tights or stockings would be nice. Each girl will also need a
red bow in her hair.
We need a parent (or two) to bring a tube of red lipstick and help in the
classroom to put red circles on the cheeks of the girls and boys.

THE CLASSROOM TEACHER WILL DECIDE if the students will wear their performance
clothes to school on their assigned performance day or if they will bring
them to change into before the performance. The programs start on time and
last under 20 minutes.
You may purchase a DVD of your child’s performance for $10.00.Please see the
attached
form.

FIRST GRADE PROGRAM SONGS TO LEARN:
Here is a link to a sing along song #3-The 50 States in Rhyme:
 http://www.northwesternelementary.org/fiftystatesvideo.html

1 THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
(Chorus) This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island.
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me
1) As I was walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway.
I saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and me. (repeat chorus)
 2 LET US ENTERTAIN YOU
Texas to New York! We’re going on a train ride
And traveling across the USA!
This land is your land and this land is my land
And we’ll be singing as we go our way.
America is out there, so come on “All Aboard!”
Your ticket is waiting, the price you can afford.
So let us entertain you, let us make you smile.
Put your hat and coat on it’s time to get the show on,
We’ll travel for a while.
And if you’re real good we’ll make you feel good,
We want your spirits to climb.
So let us entertain you, We’ll have a real good time, yes, sir.
We’ll have a real good time!
 3 FIFTY STATES IN RHYME
When I was small I studied U.S. geography.
The teacher said “would you stand up and list the states for me?”
My knees began a-knockin’, my words fell out all wrong.
And suddenly I burst out with this silly little song

Alabama and Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, then Connecticut
and more
Delaware, Florida, Georgia, then Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, still
thirty-five to go.
Kansas and Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine,
Maryland, Massachusetts, and good old Michigan
Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, and Montana
Then Nebraska’s twenty-seven, number twenty-eight’s Nevada.
Next, New Hampshire, and New Jersey, and way down New Mexico.
There’s New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio.
Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, now let’s see
Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota Tennessee. Texas and there’s Utah,
Vermont, I’m almost through. Virginia, then there’s Washington and West
Virginia, too. Could Wisconsin be the last one, or is it forty-nine? No
Wyoming is the last state in the fifty states that rhyme! (repeat last line)
 4 GET ON BOARD
(1)Get on board ev’rybody, (3x’s)
We’re going for a ride.
I hear the train a-comin’, I hear it close at hand.
So come and take a ride with us across this big wide land.
Get on board ev’rybody, (3x’s) we’re going for a ride.
(2) Hold on tight ev’rybody (3x’s) we’re goin’ for a ride.
We’re headed through the southwest,
A movin’ on this train. Our first stop will be Texas with cowboys on the
range.
Heading West ev’rybody (3x’s)
We’re comin’ to our stop.

 5 YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS
There’s a Yellow Rose in Texas
I’m going home to see.
She wants no other fellow, no body only me.
Oh she cried so when I left her that it nearly broke her heart and I hope that
when we meet again we never more shall part.
She’s the sweetest little lady a fellow ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds they sparkle like the dew.
You may talk about your dearest girls and sing of Rosa Lee.
But the Yellow Rose of Texas beats the belles of Tennessee.
6 DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
The stars at night are big and bright,(clap 4 Xs)
Deep in the heart of Texas
The prairie sky is wide and high,
Deep in the heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom is like perfume,
Deep in the heart of Texas.
Reminds me of the one I love,
Deep in the heart of Texas
 7 HOME ON THE RANGE
Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

 8 CLEMENTINE
(1) In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine.
Dwelt a miner, forty niner,
And his daughter, Clementine

(Chorus)Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever,
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

(2) Drove she ducklings to the water
Ev'ry morning just at nine,
Hit her foot against a splinter,
Fell into the foaming brine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
You are lost and gone forever,
Dreadful sorry, Clementine

 9 WIZARD OF OZ
Follow the yellow brick road,
Follow the yellow brick road
Follow, follow, follow, follow,
Follow the yellow brick road.
Follow the rainbow over the stream.
Follow the fellow who follows the dream.
Follow, follow, follow, follow,
Follow the yellow brick road.

* We’re off to see the Wizard,
  The wonderful Wizard of Oz.
We hear he is a wiz of a wiz if ever a wiz there was.
If ever, oh ever a wiz there was,
The Wizard of Oz is one because,
   Because, because. Because, because. Because!
Because of the wonderful things he does!
We’re off to see the Wizard,
   The wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Treat your friends nice when you’re playing at school.
It’s OK to play hard but always play by the rules.

Always be a good sport ‘cause everybody’s tryin’ the same.
