Dear Parents,
We certainly went “Crazy for Coconuts” last week! We did an amazing job on our
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom math and literacy centers! I was very pleased with all of our friends’ effort! During Reader’s Workshop, we learned about “Making Connections” and “Text-to-Text Connections” using Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3. During Writer’s Workshop, we worked on becoming “Growing Artists” when working in our Writing Workshop Notebooks. During Theme Study, we used our 5 senses to describe a fresh coconut. The highlight of our week was on Friday! During Theme study, we read What Do Scientists Do? We learned about asking questions, making hypotheses, testing our hypotheses, and recording our observations. We made a graph to answer the question, “Will a coconut sink or float?” Then, we tested our hypothesis by putting a coconut in a tub of water. Our coconut floated! We recorded our observations in our science journals and then tested other items in our room, such as a domino, a penny, a block, and an eraser. We recorded our new observations in our science journals!
This week, we will be studying Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Our math and literacy centers will focus on Brown Bear colors, color words, shapes, and numbers. We will make connections between Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and other Eric Carle stories. We will also experiment with colors!
I will begin sending homework in your child’s FARM Folder next week. It will be placed in the homework pouch of the FARM Folder. Please complete the homework and return to school on Friday for a reward! The homework should not take longer than 15 minutes! Also, please remember to return the Take-Home Backpacks. It is very important that they are returned to school on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions1

Love,
Mrs. Wells
