Announcements

Hello Parents,

Welcome to another school year. Hopefully, you are as excited about the coming year as we are. I know that many of you have questions and concerns. I assure you that we will be here throughout the year to alleviate these quickly and professionally.

Over the next few weeks, your child will be given a list of things that he or she needs to take care of quickly in order to have a productive school year.

In most classes, there will be a fee. Usually, these are for things such as paper, supplies, books, and other extraneous items that teachers are unable to afford themselves. It is necessary to get these fees paid as quickly as possible. Report cards do get held if they are not paid on time.

In all classes your child should receive a syllabus or some type. This syllabus should you an indication of what supplies are needed, what material will be covered, and what is to be expected of your child. It is very important that you read these carefully.

Your child will also receive handouts about clubs and other organizations. It is very important for incoming freshmen to get involved in the school. Countless studies have proven that a child who is involved in school activities is much more likely to do well than one who is not. Remember: not all programs are athletic in nature. There is an opportunity for involvement for EVERY child.

Finally, the most important thing you can do--as a parent--is SHOW up. When you come to Back to School Night and football games, you are showing your child that you care about both their education and school.

Here is a copy of my syllabus:

4. Write only on the front of your paper unless otherwise instructed. You may use both sides of the paper for class notes, rough drafts, and practice drills.

5. Remember to be neat in all of your work. DO NOT use liquid paper. You may type work if you remember to double space.

6. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange a time to do the work you miss. Adhere to school guidelines concerning time for makeup work (3 calendar days).

7. Keep a record of your point count at all times. Missing assignments destroy grades.

8. Let your behavior reflect that you are a goal-oriented student. You should not eat or drink in class.

9. Treat everyone with respect. This includes being quiet while someone is expressing his or her opinion. We do not all have to agree with one another, but we do have to respect one anothers rights.

10. Come to class prepared for the days work. This will promote good class discussion and a competitive, learning environment.

Bonus work is at MY discretion. If a child chooses not to work and then expects to catch up using bonus work and extended time, this could be problematic.

Novels Covered as a Part of This Course: The Giver, The Noticer, and two (2) additional AR books. You are responsible for obtaining these books. Do not wait until the last minute. Order them online or find them at a local bookstore.

We will be also writing 250-300 word essays as a part of this course and exploring creative writing.

World Literature Students,

We will be reading a variety of literature. You will receive a list of the readings within the first few days of school. Most will be provided to you. However, you may be required to purchase certain titles due to a lack of copies.

Simply follow the previous guidelines for supplies.
