FAQ

This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
  1. How do I request to see my counselor?
  2. How do I find out how many credits I have earned?
  3. How can I keep track of my child's grades before the report cards come out?
  4. How long do I have to request a schedule change?

How do I request to see my counselor?

Located on the front door of the counseling complex are two boxes: one is
labeled "in" and the other is labeled "out". Remove the request form from
the out box, fill it out and return it to the in box. Your counselor will
call you in as soon as she gets the chance. Please do not fill out more than
one request per subject. This will not get your request answered any faster.

How do I find out how many credits I have earned?

The total number of credits earned may be found on your SA-12. This document
will list every class that you have ever taken and received high school
credit. You are to check this history during your advisement sessions held
monthly. If you find an error or have questions, request to see your
counselor.

How can I keep track of my child's grades before the report cards come out?

Students have been issued an agenda which contains daily calendars for
listing assignments and grades on returned work. In addition, students can
bring home a weekly progress report. These blank forms can be obtained from
the Counseling Complex on Fridays, for example. Teachers will gladly fill
out the information when the students politely request it. Many of the
teachers send home regular reports of grades and ask students to have them
signed for extra points. All of these methods are effective and recommended.

How long do I have to request a schedule change?

Students have 10 days beginning the first week of each semester to request
for a schedule change. No changes after that time will be approved. This
deadline is given by the state dept. and is not under school control.

What is a five year plan and why do I have to complete one?

Beginning with the 8th grade year, all Louisiana students are required to
complete a plan of study for the high school years and the year immediately
following graduation. It is the intent of the state to help students plan
for life outside of high school and encourages parents, teachers, students
and counselors to work together to help students achieve this goal. The five
year plan is reviewed annually and changes made as needed. It is very
important that the student, his/her parents and advisor review this plan and
collaboratively follow it. State law mandates that a current plan is on file
for each student enrolled in a public school.
