Ask the Librarian

QUESTIIONS FOR THE LIBRARIANS?
  1. When can I come to the Library?
  2. How are books selected?
  3. Why are so many internet cites blocked?
  4. Why can't we bring food or drinks in the library?
  5. What about book bags?

When can I come to the Library?

Students may come to the Library before school, after school, during lunch,
with a pass from a class, or with a class. The Library is open from 7:30am
until 4:00pm.

How are books selected?

Requests for particular titles may be made by teachers, students, etc. The
librarians use slection tools such as "Booklist" and "School Library
Journal" to read reviews of newly published books to select new books to
order. We try to order books to fill "gaps" in the collection, or an area
that we see a need for more information requested.

Why are so many internet cites blocked?

Caddo Parish is covered by an internet filtering service. The Librarians do
not control this service. Mr. Joe Brown, the Technology Director is in
charge of Internet Services. There are always some problems with these
filters, but they serve a very good purpose. They are for our protection
and are very much needed. If a cite is truly needed for educational
purposes and is blocked, we can e-mail Mr. Brown to see if it can be un-
blocked.

Why can't we bring food or drinks in the library?

The risk to the computer equipment from spilled liquid and crumbs is pretty
obvious! No one thinks that they will ever spill anything, but it happens.
We do not have the funds to take that kind of risk with what we have!

What about book bags?

Our space is too limited to store a pile of book bags in the door. People
trip over them and they are in the way. They may also conceal items that do
not need to leave the library.
