WHAT IS CMC (CONTENT MASTERY CENTER)?

CMC is a program designed to assist identified special education 
students in 
the regular education program.  Students receive direct 
instruction from the 
regular classroom teacher and may benefit from utilizing CMC for 
additional 
support with assignments.

WHAT IS 504?

Section 504 is a civil rights law.  The Rehabilitation Act of 
1973 is a 
civil rights act that protects the rights of individuals with 
disabilities 
in programs and activities that receive Federal financial 
assistance from 
the U.S. Department of Education.

WHAT IS THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT (IDEA)?

The IDEA is the federal law governing the education of children 
with 
disabilities.

WHY SHOULD MY CHILD UTILIZE THE CMC?

Students may use the Content Mastery Center to work on 
independent 
assignments that will require academic support and or small group 
instruction; needing to have a test or other materials read 
aloud; needing 
to use a computer to complete a written assignment when one is 
not available 
in the library or classroom; needing to review in a study session 
prior to 
taking a test; grades are below 70% or student is failing a 
course; review 
of previously taught information is needed and cannot be met in 
the 
classroom.  PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR SON/DAUGHTER TO UTILIZE CMC FOR 
ASSISTANCE, AS NEEDED.

WHEN SHOULD A STUDENT REMAIN IN THE CLASSROOM?

1.  A student should remain in the classroom when instructions 
and/or 
directions are being given for an assignment.

2.  When direct instruction, lectures, class discussions, small 
group work, 
audio-visual presentations, etc. is being conducted by the 
teacher.
