Weekly Update

                                             February 13, 2012

Dear Parents,
I hope you are all ready for a whirlwind week….’cause ready or not here
it comes! We will celebrate Valentine’s Day, have decorated wagons delivered
to our room, and prepare for our big Pre-K Mardi Gras Parade all in a few
days! The boys and girls are so excited…..and I must say have been excited
for a couple of weeks now with anticipation!! We will try our best to keep
things in routine as much as we can…..but little and big alike LOVE
Valentine’s Day and a parade in one week!
This week our letter is Mm…..and of course we will talk all about Mardi
Gras!!!! Our new puppet, Merry Mouse, delivers mail with her Momma. One day
Merry wakes up with red marks on her face……yes, measles!!!! They decided to
visit Mr. Monster who lives on Monster Mountain….and he diagnoses our cute
little mouse and even prescribes medicine for her! Sound like oh so much fun
in the “make-believe world” of pre-K??? You bet it is fun!!! We will make a
“Mardi Gras M”, pin punch Mm, decorate a fleur de lis that you will absolutely
want to frame, embellish a Mardi Gras mask with sequins, glitter and feathers,
and end our week with a king cake that we make out of construction paper…..and
then one that we bake and eat! YUM!!!!
In math we are ready to roll on with number 13. We will pin punch our
number and add 13 purple, green, and gold dots, sequence our numbers 1-13 as
we make a Mardi Gras necklace on construction paper, make patterns out of
doubloons, sort doubloons, and have fun with set mats and M&M’s. The boys and
girls are now quite good thinking of math sentences as we add and “take away”
M&M’s on our set mats….we have learned that sentences are not only made with
words…..we can make them with numbers too!!
In social studies our unit is Mardi Gras. We will have a great time
learning all about this big event on the day before Ash Wednesday. We will
talk about “Fat Tuesday”- a French word, the first parade in Mobile, Alabama,
Rex King of Carnival, what the king cake represents, and then have fun
picturing ourselves in the midst of all those BIG parades in New Orleans!!
Laissez le Bon Temps Rouler!!!!!!!
Now we will start with all of our reminders this week! If you have not
sent in your child’s valentines….please do so tomorrow!!!! Decorated wagons
are due in the classroom Tuesday, February 14. Our Pre-K Mardi Gras Parade is
Thursday, February 16 @ 1:45. All volunteers please be in the classroom at
1:30. Boys and girls are to wear their PRE-K ROCKS MARDI GRAS t-shirt, jeans,
and tennis shoes. Our BIG kids deck out in Mardi Gras colors too!! Please
make arrangements to take your wagons home immediately after the parade…..our
classroom is really crowded with all those wagons! All spectators…..please
take a spot in front of the school and wait for our Krewe of Pre-K to roll!!!

                                           Have a great week!
                                           Diane and Lynda
