What time does my child need to be at school?
The first bell rings at 7:45 A.M. (It is important that your
child arrives on time, because Mrs.Tina--cafeteria manager--
needs a lunch count for the day).
We start out with prayer, pledge, and calendar.
When do we eat?
Breakfast is served every morning from 7:10-7:40 in the
cafeteria. It is your choice whether your child will eat
breakfast at school or at home.
The children have 2 snacks each day. Our morning snack is
usually around 9:45-10:00. It is not meant to take the place of
breakfast.
The teacher purchases this snack with your supply money. We
usually have some type of fruit, crackers, and milk or juice.
Lunch time is at 12:00. After naptime, we have our afternoon
snack. You will be assigned approximately two weeks during the
year to bring this. We will send home a snack calendar at
the beginning of each month. Post this on your refrigerator to
help you remember your snack date.
Can I go home with a friend?
Yes, however, if your child is going home a different way, you
must send a note. We will not let a child just tell us they need
to go home with a friend.
Do we have homework?
The children will bring home their work daily in their folder.
The child's homework is to show you each page and explain it to
you. Let your child know how proud you are of his hard work by
praising him and displaying his papers. When we start learning
how to write our letters, your child will have practice work to
complete at home. Be sure this practice does not exceed 10-15
minutes each day.
We will also be sending home little readers. These usually
contain the high frequency words we are studying that week.
Do I have to take a nap?
We lay down everyday after lunch (12:30-1:30). We cannot
make them sleep, but we do require them to rest quitely. Please
send a regular sized towel. We keep these inside our desks. If
you send a beach towel, your child will not have room for other
supplies he needs during the day. Nap towels are sent home every
Friday to be washed.
Can we bring toys to school?
The children are not allowed to bring small toys from home to
play with at recess. It is not necessary. We have plenty of
balls, jump ropes and other outside equipment.
Please don't let children bring any real money or coins to
school.
This always seems to cause a problem.
Can we send medicines to school?
If your child needs medicine during the day, you must come to
school to give it to him. We are not allowed to dispense
medicines anymore unless it is a medication that must be taken
on a daily basis. In this case, a form obtained from the office
should be completed by the physician and remain on file in the
school office. Medicines are then dispensed in the office.
When do we go to Library, P.E., and Music?
We go to Music every Tuesday morning from 8:25-8:55, Library
every Thursday afternoon from 2:00 to 2:30, and PE every Monday
from 1:50 to 2:10 and Wednesday morning from 8:00 to 8:25. We
will also have Spanish on Wednesday mornings from 10:10-10:30.
When do we go to recess?
Our morning recess is from 9:15 to 9:30; lunch recess is from
11:05 to 11:25; and our afternoon break is at 1:40.
Can we have a birthday party at school?
Each child will have the opportunity to celebrate their
"special" day. Your child's day will be assigned on the monthly
snack calendar. They may bring cupcakes, cookie cakes, a favorite
treat of theirs, etc. Most parents do not attend the party. We
will celebrate with them after nap.
