Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions
of students and parents.
- Do you tutor?
- Why don't you give partial credit for homework?
- Why won't you take homework late?
Do you tutor?
Yes. Tutoring for Biology II is generally held on Tuesdays
immediately after school. Chemistry tutoring is on Wednesdays
immediately after school. There are situations when tutoring days
need to be changed. These are announced in advance.
If a student wants to attend tutoring but has other obligations on
the regular tutoring day for his/her subject, he/she needs to talk
to me and we will work out a time that is convenient for both of
us.
Why don't you give partial credit for homework?
Most of the time (and when there are exceptions the class will be
told when the assignment is given) I check homework very
quickly. I look to see if all the questions/problems are done,
if all parts of the problem were written, etc. I do not check
for accuracy. This is the time for a student to attempt every
question. If he/she answers it incorrectly, he/she will
still get credit for the assignment. In other words, I give
credit for trying. Generally, homework assignments are worth 10
points. If a student does not complete one or two homework
assignments, the overall average is not hurt too much. However,
if a student consistently does not complete and turn in homework,
the overall average can suffer tremendously.
Why won't you take homework late?
Many times we discuss the homework in class on the day it is
due. It would be unfair to allow someone to hear the answers and
then turn in the homework. I WILL, however, take homework if the student was absent on the day it was due. He/she needs to turn it in as soon as he/she arrives in the classroom. I will also let a student make
up homework if he/she is absent. It is the student's
responsibility to find out what the alternate homework is and turn it in in
a timely manner.
